Imagine a cute, little bowl cake made from rice flour and topped with flavorful dried radish. What do you call it?

In Malaysia🇲🇾, the Chinese Teochew call it #水粿 "𝑪𝒉𝒘𝒆𝒆 𝑲𝒖𝒆𝒉," while the Cantonese refer to it as #碗仔糕. Both names point to the same delightful 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗸𝗲. These rice cakes are almost tasteless on their own, but when topped with preserved radish and served with chili sauce... Oh wow, it's pure heaven!🤤

In Taiwan🇹🇼, they have a similar treat called #碗粿 "𝑾𝒂 𝑮𝒖𝒆𝒊," especially popular in Tainan. The rice cake itself is well-seasoned and delicious on its own, but locals love it topped with “3-𝑐𝑜𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑒𝑑 𝑠𝑎𝑢𝑐𝑒𝑠”–yellow garlic puree, red chili sauce, and bright green wasabi sauce.

They receive ritual offerings for a month to soothe their souls and guide them on the Taoist path.
