Traditional Ashtanga Yoga classes in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city taught by Yan Ong and Manuel Ferreira, both Level 2 Authorised teachers of the Sri K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI). Ashtanga Yoga is the yoga of 8 limbs and one of the few existing yoga traditions kept alive by a strict lineage of teachings passed down thru history. Mysore Room classes teaches Ashtanga Yoga as it
is taught in the Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India and both teachers are direct disciples of the Jois family. All teachings within Mysore Room are dedicated to Sharath Jois, KPJAYI and the late Guruji in humble pursuit to preserve and carry forth teaching this lineage of yoga in its purest form.
[Please Note: (1) Please bring your own yoga mat & hand towel (2) on the last Friday of every month there is a Led Primary Class at 6.45-8.15am. Mysore Class will resume from 8.30-10am on these days (3) on most public holidays class will be at 9-11am and no evening class, please check the Facebook wall for updates.]

Dear students, as you noticed we been training Minnie and Perlin to assist and become teachers of Mysore Room KL. They are very dedicated practitioners and shown the interest to also share this Practice therefore we are happy to have them in our team.
Manuel will travel to China to teach from the 27th of May to the 10th of June, classes will be held by Minnie.
In July & August we will be in Europe to teach and visit our family, classes will be taught by Minnie and Perlin, during this 2 months class fees will be readjusted accordingly.
Online classes will be paused while we are away, only in person classes available.

About Teacher Choon Kiat (CK):
Choon Kiat Chong (Choon) first encounter Ashtanga Yoga in 2010 while working as an software engineer in San Francisco, he was immediately taken by this powerful method and started self practicing primary series. Choon moved back to Melaka in 2014 and start practicing under Mysore Room KL with the guidance of Yang Ong and Manuel Ferreira.
Choon started visiting Mysore India to practice with Sharath Jois in 2015. It was in 2018 that he received the blessing of Sharath Jois as an Level 1 Authorized Ashtanga teacher. Choon is now one of the only three Authorized Ashtanga teacher in Malaysia.
Choon founded Ashtanga Yoga Melaka in 2019 and has been teaching ashtanga yoga since.
There is no Yoga Practice without discipline and commitment. We can have some fun doing shapes with our bodies but can’t really call it Yoga…
Yoga is a mental Practice, just like our bodies, our minds need to be strong and exercised, that start with discipline and commitment.
We will get as much benefit from this Practice as much effort we invest on it. Same as in a relationship, we have to make sacrifices and set our priorities right, if not it won’t last long…
Stay on track, stay focus and Yoga will stay with you forever ❤️

The felling of freedom in a back bend or front body extension is real! So many of us struggle during this postures but all of us feel extremely relieved afterwards, if it’s done properly and with the right guidance.
One of the things that gives me more joy in life is to teach people how to create freedom in their bodies. So many students don’t believing they can do this practice, I am here to convincing them that everyone can! 👊👍

We couldn’t be more excited to announced that our dear friend Matt will be teaching at Mysore Room KL! This is a unique opportunity to learn from a teacher that has been sharing this method around the world for the past 25 years.
More about Matt:
Matt Corigliano's introduction to Ashtanga Yoga started in his childhood. Both his parents were students of Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois and they have been practicing and teaching this lineage for over the 35 years.
Growing up in Hawaii he spent most of my time on the beaches learning about the ocean and the waves. In his early teens he started practicing with his parents but didn't really connect because the focus was surfing and the ocean.
When he was 19 years old Pattabhi Jois and Sharath Jois made a trip to Hawaii and his parents invited him to join them. Practicing alongside his parents and many other long time students inspired him to travel to India and study at the source. He made multiple trips to India to go deeper into studying the practice.
Matt was authorised to teach from the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in 2004.

🇵🇹 Happy International Yoga Day! Here is a small clip about leg activation during our practice in order to prevent joint issues. We learn to walk by transferring the weight from one foot to the other, by pressing one foot at the time on the floor correct? During our Yoga practice we should do exactly the same, no matter if its a standing or seat posture we should concentrate on pressing down the parts of body that are touching the floor. This is how we create a strong foundation to all the asanas. By using almost no strength from the arms to adjust our legs we create more flexibility and mobility in the hips while preventing any issues around the knee and ankles. Like mentioned before in the previous clips this is a slow process, forcing will only bring more stress to those articulations. By practicing with a awareness and patience we end up to create more intelligence in our body, this way we will build a sustainable life long practice. 🇵🇹 Feliz Dia Internacional do Yoga! Aqui está um pequeno vídeo sobre a activação das pernas durante a nossa prática de modo a evitar problemas nas articulações dos joelhos e tornozelos. Nós aprendemos a andar transferindo o peso corpo de um pé para o outro, pressionado um pé de cada vez no chão, correcto? Na nossa prática de Yoga devemos fazer exactamente o mesmo, quer seja na posturas de pé ou sentadas, quando concentramos a atenção nas partes do corpo que estão em contacto com o chão criamos uma base sólida para todas as posturas. Usando quase nenhuma força dos braços para ajustar as pernas, criamos mais flexibilidade e mobilidade nas ancas, evitando problemas nos joelho e tornozelos. 🇬🇧 This is a postures that many of us find it near to impossible to achieve when we first face this part of primary series but guess what? With practice, patience and time, all can happen! In the first part of the clip we can see 3 stages, from advance to the modification. (In case of knee pain or past injury) Normally when we see our selfs having difficulties in one specific asana the answer is on previous ones, sometimes away back in the sequence. Here we observe the posture just before, Marichyasana C and one of the most important twists that can be found in the standing fundamental asanas, Utthita Parsvakonasana B. If we pay attention we can see that the movements are very similar. Take your time and don’t force it... For most of us this will be a slow process but it’s worth it, make sure you enjoy it! 🇵🇹 Esta é uma postura que para a maioria de nós parece impossível quando alcançamos esta parte da primeira série mas com prática, paciência e tempo, tudo é possível! Na primeira parte deste vídeo podemos ver 3 níveis, de avançado até à modificação. (No caso de dor ou lesão no joelho) Normalmente quando nos deparamos com bastante dificuldade numa postura específica, a resposta está nas posturas anteriores, às vezes bem para o princípio da sequência. - Kapotasana- 🇬🇧 This is a “interesting” one! It’s an extremely difficult posture for almost all of us. Some days I am able to land directly on my feet, like this video, other days I land on the floor and walk through the mat until I reach my heels. Either way, a lot of the work can be done on the way down, take your time... hang there for awhile... no rush. This way we are able to find space in the front part of the body, upper back & shoulders. The most important thing, don’t forget to breath! Through the breathing process we are able to find freedom and space to move in different directions. In the end of the of day we are just challenging our bodies in different shapes while trying to keep our breathing stable and steady. 🇵🇹 Esta é uma postura “interessante”, extremamente difícil para a maioria de nós. As vezes consigo ir directo aos pés, outras vezes aterro no chão e caminho até chegar aos calcanhares. De uma forma ou outra, é bastante importante descer bem devagar de forma a conseguir criar espaço na parte da frente do corpo, zona superior das costas e ombros. O mais importante, não esquecer de respirar! É pelo processo da respiração que conseguimos criar espaço e liberdade no nosso corpo para nos movermos em várias direções. Memorable moment at Mysore Room... Our students practicing with our teacher Paramaguru Sharath Jois at the shala. To think exactly a year ago we had to shut down the shala and move online and then shut down several more times in a year of instability and unpredictability... Yoga is always there to lift us up, ground us when we are lost and bring us together to share and love. We are fully operational both online and socially distanced in the shala (physical yoga space) ! You can take you pick to attend in person or virtually! We teach 2 types of classes at Mysore Room : 1) a self paced, one-on-one taught Mysore style class where each student is is given personalised instruction according to their needs. It is known around the world as Mysore class because Mysore is the town in which the Ashtanga Yoga institute is founded and where this method of teaching created. & 2) a group coordinated class counted in traditional sanskrit for students that have practiced at least a month of Mysore style, known as a Led class as it is verbally led by the teacher. Every Saturday we have a Trial class to give a taster of how we teach, and give you a chance to experience our all inclusive philosophy to providing the Ashtanga Yoga to our students. Late last night practicing with our teacher, Paramaguru Sharath Jois @sharathjoisr online, thanks to our friends who organised the event in Europe @mysorehousemadrid @susanna.finocchi.3 @yogashalastockholm @ @jensbache 🙏🏼 Many of us take for granted what we have access to until we don’t have it easily anymore. Both of us have our teacher far from us, we need to fly and drive and make a bunch of sacrifices to keep dedicated to a life long learning of yoga. All year around we practice alone and understand the motivation and value a teacher brings, so when we can we grab the opportunity. Even if it was late at night and I go our bedtime, hearing his voice and listening to his words always gives a boost of energy and inspiration. Many of us don’t realise it, but in an Ashtanga Mysore class an adjustment or assistance during practice is an act of love and caring. It is someone showing you how to explore yourself carefully with full attention to where you currently are. Thru your hands and voice you share your knowledge from experience and with love, move another’s body. A deep selfless connection occurs from the person helping to the practitioner. If the ego gets in the way the connection abruptly breaks and trust and sharing cannot flow. Thank you to all the spouses that have been helping their partners, our students, online when we couldn’t physically over the screens. Your love and caring was felt because that’s how we feel too! Traditional Ashtanga Yoga classes in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city taught by Yan Ong & Manuel Ferreira, both Level 2 Authorised teachers of the Sri K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI). Ashtanga Yoga is the yoga of 8 limbs and one of the few existing yoga traditions kept alive by a strict lineage of teachings passed down thru history. Mysore Room classes teaches Ashtanga Yoga as it is taught in the Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India and both teachers are direct disciples of the Jois family. All teachings within Mysore Room are dedicated to Sharath Jois, KPJAYI and the late Guruji in humble pursuit to preserve and carry forth teaching this lineage of yoga in its purest form. [Please Note: (1) Please bring your own yoga mat & hand towel (2) on the last Friday of every month there is a Led Primary Class at 6.45-8.15am.
