The Sea Gypsies of Malaysia, known as the Bajau Laut, have spent centuries living in harmony with the ocean.
Their stilted homes rise above the turquoise waters of Sabah, and their deep freediving skills allow them to harvest the sea’s bounty with ease. Living mostly on boats or in floating villages, they embrace a nomadic lifestyle shaped by the tides.
Their traditions, from handcrafted wooden boats to mesmerizing folk songs, reflect a deep bond with the sea; one that continues to endure despite modern challenges.
