Masjid Tour Guide ( MTG) is one of the programs under the umbrella of Islamic Outreach Abim Centre (IOAC), one of the most notable non-governmental organizations in Malaysia. (IOAC) started as early 1987 and has been at the forefront of few other projects like the Hospital Visit, Program with Orang Asli (the aborigines), Children Welfare (Orph

anage) and few others. MTG in general was pioneered by En Azizuddin (Chairman of IOAC ) and Puan Normah (Vice Chairman of IOAC) and officially launched in 2002 having sought the approval from the Religious Department of Malaysia (JAKIM and JAWI) . Since then, MTG started operating and welcoming tourists and has been operating in some of the notable mosques in Malaysia such Masjid Jamek Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Putrajaya, Masjid Sultan Mizan Putrajaya, Masjid Negeri Shah Alam, Masjid Keling Malacca, Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar Johor Baru and the latest one is in Masjid Zahir Alor Setar, Kedah. With regards to MTG Masjid Jamek itself, it was initially started way back in 2008 and spearheaded by some of the pioneer volunteers such Puan Normah and her sister Puan Kamariah. It didn’t take long for them to get a massive support when they were eventually joined by more volunteers coming from various backgrounds from students to professional executives, housewives and retirees, Malaysians and Non Malaysians and all sorts of background that truly made MTG unique on its own. As a matter of fact, the volunteers truly work together as a family to better provide an effective volunteering work throughout the whole year. MTG Masjid Jamek aims to bridge a greater understanding between Muslims and Non-Muslims and try to explore the opportunity of using the mosque or masjid as a place of inviting others to understand Islam in a better manner. To be exact, different from those which are sometimes misrepresented on the mainstream media. Besides that, it also aims to create an awareness on the importance of mosque as a place of communal and social activities and a good platform to bridge a greater understanding between people of different faith. Most importantly, MTG Masjid Jamek aspires to provide a good and wholesome experience to our guest and visitors especially those who have never set foot to the mosque i.e. they come to the mosque for the first time in their entire life. In the words of Puan Normah, she says: ."This is an opportunity for us to explain the architecture of the mosque and its functions, hence bringing non-Muslims closer to Islam and clearing misconceptions about the religion through the mosque."
