It's fascinating how subtle differences can make identifying wildlife a true challenge. In Bako National Park, both the Chestnut-bellied Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus sumatranus) and the Chestnut-breasted Malkoha (Phaenicophaeus curvirostris) add to the rich tapestry of bird life.

The Chestnut-bellied Malkoha is more commonly seen and is distinguished by its vibrant chestnut-colored belly that stands out against its darker plumage. In contrast, the Chestnut-breasted Malkoha is more elusive and tricky to spot. It shares similar colors but differs in the shade and distribution of the chestnut hue, which is more confined to the breast area.
