We organized a conservation tour for New Community Project (NCP) from USA. David Radcliff, director of NCP and Chhiring Dolma Karmi, staff from Nepal visited us on May 4, 2024.
The first day, we visited a restored mangrove site near Bakapit. This mangrove site is enclosed with shrimp farming. The mangrove restoration work is successful after one year. David also planted a mangrove seedling. Later on, we went to a forest that is enclosed with oil palm. Forestry Department lead by Mazrie, conducted oil palm tree poisoning and plant indigenous tree seedling to restore the area. This forest area about 60ha is overrun by oil palm. It was called "Lost Forest" by our former Chief Conservation Forest.
David has interest and propose to support Lost Forest and mangrove projects.
On the second day, we visited a forest community in Tempinau, Ulu-Segama Malua (USM) area. David has a good discussion with the community and hope to support their effort for forest restoration. We also visited an area that was planted with indigenous trees species 40 years ago near Taliwas. David is impressed. After that, we went to lower Kawag to have our lunch. We went to a planting site. David and Chhiring planted about 20 seedlings. This forest was burned long time ago, now major effort to restore the forest for wildlife habitat.
Finally, we thanked Mr.Suhaimin from USM for showing us around.
