Langkawi Research Centre (Pusat Penyelidikan Langkawi, PPL) was established in 2002 to develop and co-ordinate research in natural and socio-cultural resources, with emphasis on sustainable resource development, policy studies, and tourism development. The four main programmes in PPL focus on: Geological and Landscape Heritage Resources; Biological and Marine Heritage Resources; Cultural and Local

Tradition Heritage Resources; and Environmental Health. PPL strives to become a Centre of Excellence and a referral centre for the nation and society at large.
