Georgia Exploration (10D/09N) (small group) (Half Board) (September 23 - October 01, 2023)
Republic of Georgia is a country at the intersection of Europe and Asia, it was part of the former Soviet republic that’s home to Caucasus Mountain villages and Black Sea beaches. It’s renowned for Vardzia, a sprawling cave monastery dating to the 12th century, and the ancient wine-growing region Kakheti. Tbilisi, which is the capital is known for the diverse architecture and mazelike, cobblestone streets of its old town. Wait no longer, join our small group tour and start this exploration.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN TBILISI
Arrival at Tbilisi International airport. Meet and greet at the arrival hall and transfer to Tbilisi hotel.
Overnight in Tbilisi.
DAY 2: TBILISI – JVARI – GORI – UPLISTSIKHE – AKHALTSIKHE
Tour starts after breakfast at the hotel.
10:00 Check out and meet your guide in the hotel lobby.
Today leave Tbilisi for Akhaltsike for two nights. Drive through Kartli region and visit UNESCO World
Heritage Site: Jvari Monastery 6th c.
Tour continues to Gori – a small town at the center of Kartli. Make a short Gori tour, visit Gori Fortress –
a medieval citadel situated on a hill, that offers panoramic views on Gori. Stalin house-museum is
located nearby. Museum visit is *optional.
Head to the ancient cave complex of Uplistsikhe. This oldest urban settlement is dated back to the 1st
millennium BC, and is located in 15 km from Gori. Covering an area of approximately 8 hectares,
Uplistsikhe served as an important religious, political and economic center in preChristian Kartli kingdom. Today visitors can find streets, chambers, tunnels and theater hall in the ruins
of Uplistsikhe.
Drive to Samtskhe-Javakheti region, in the evening arrive in Akhaltsikhe – the major town located in the
ravine of the river Potskhovi.
Overnight in Akhaltsikhe.

DAY 3: AKHALTSIKHE – RABATI – VARDZIA – AKHALTSIKHE
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the major attraction - the medieval castle- museum in Rabati historical
district on Akhaltsikhe hilltop, where 9th century fortress was rebuilt. Here, Duke Jakeli family palace,
fortress, orthodox church, mosque, synagogue, catholic church, and a museum are located in a few
minutes of the walking distance. Excursion will take about 45 minutes.
Drive along the Mtkvari river to the town Aspindza, Khertvisi, Tmogvi Fortresses and Vardzia cave
monastery. Vardzia is a medieval rock-hewn cave complex, carved into the volcanic rocks on 13 levels,
with numerous internal corridors, secret tunnels, chapels and dwellings. The main hall is covered with
beautiful murals of 12th c. The Vardzia tour will take about 1 h.
For lunch visit local farm Valodia's Cottage. Family offers organic vegetables and trout barbeque
on Mtkvari riverside.
In the evening we come back to Akhaltsikhe.
Overnight in Akhaltsikhe.
DAY 4: AKHALTSIKHE – BORJOMI – RIKOTI PASS - KUTAISI
On day 4, after breakfast check out and depart for Borjomi resort. Visit Borjomi National Park, taste
local sparkling mineral water ‘Borjomi’, and take a walk in the park.
After tour in Borjomi, continue to the west Georgia via Rikoti pass through tunnel connecting East and
West Georgia. On the way stop at Ubisa Monastery (9th c) beautifully painted by artist Damiane (14th c
frescoes), a few spots where local farmers sell various pottery and other handmade ethnographical
souvenirs.

Arrive in Gelati Monastery and Academy, the brilliant example of 12th c Georgian Golden Era. Wall
painting, mosaic and architecture represents the real masterpiece of middle ages and is listed in the
UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
In the evening arrive in Kutaisi – the administrative center of Imereti region. Enjoy Kutaisi evening
walking tour, visit Bagrati Cathedral, main square around the fountain, central park and check in the
hotel.
Overnight in Kutaisi.
DAY 5: KUTAISI–PROMETHEUS CAVE – OKATSE - MARTVILI CANYON –KUTAISI
Today, explore natural wonders of Imereti protected areas and small part of Samegrelo region. First,
visit Prometheus Cave – a deep karst cave near Tskaltubo town, that has a 1.8 km trail with stalactites,
stalagmites, underground rivers and lakes open for visitors.
On the second part of the day enjoy a hanging 500 m path through the Okatse Canyon and a boat trip
in Martvili Canyon.
In the evening drive back to Kutaisi.
Overnight in Kutaisi.
DAY 6: KUTAISI – ANANURI – GUDAURI
After breakfast, depart for Gudauri skiing resort. Today we drive to the north and next two days are
dedicated to observe the Great Caucasus mountains. On the way make a photo stop at the Zhinvali
Reservoir, visit Ananuri Architectural Complex located in the gorge of the river Aragvi.
Children playground is nicely set nearby Ananuri Fortress. Take time to swim in fresh mountain water
of Zhinvali.
Continue the way to the north, towards the Greater Caucasus mountain, and arrive in Gudauri ski
resort, situated at an elevation of 2196 meters above the sea level.

Overnight in Gudauri hotel.
DAY 7: GUDAURI – JVARI PASS- KAZBEGI – GERGETI – DARIALI – GVELETI
After breakfast, start full-day adventure of Khevi region in Caucasus mountains. From Gudauri we
depart for Kazbegi National Park. The road reaches 2395 m above sea level on the Jvari Pass, the
watershed of Aragvi and Tergi rivers. Stops for observation platform, and enjoy Snowy peaks of
the Caucasus mountains.
Afterwards, we arrive in Kazbegi municipality town Stephantsminda. The Mount Gergeti is an excellent
place for short hiking and for panoramic views from the Gergeti Trinity Church (14th c). The Church is
beautifully set on the top and overlooks villages of Kazbegi area. It is part of Kazbegi National Park. In
clear weather, the Kazbegi Glacier (5054 m) is visible to see from here.
For lunch visit Keti’s family Cafe and taste main dish of mountain people - Khinkali (dumplings).
Continue to Dariali Gorge, a narrow canyon along Tergi river. Walk to Gveleti waterfalls, visit Dariali St.
Michael and Gabriel monastery and see Georgia-Russian border (14 km from Stephantsminda).
From Dariali, return back to Gudauri. Near the Kobi village, take a moment and don’t skip KobiGudauri cable car – unbelievable experience!
Overnight in Gudauri.
DAY 8: GUDAURI– CHATEAU MUKHRANI - MTSKHETA – TBILISI
Breakfast at the hotel; check out and drive to Tbilisi.
On the way visit Chateau Mukhrani. Have a tour of Château Mukhrani winery, underground cellars &
vineyards, Wine tasting - 4 wines from Classics’ range, Snacks: cheese assortment, Georgian bread,
Churchkhela and spring water. Then have Culinary Master Classes at Georgian Corner: Bread baking in a “Georgian tone” and
Churchkhela making.
Next visit UNESCO town Mtskheta, the capital of the former Kingdom of Iberia. In Mtskheta walk
around the historical walking district and see the masterpiece of Georgian renaissance Svetitskhoveli
Cathedral (11th c)
After drive back to Tbilisi.
Overnight in Tbilisi.
DAY 9: TBILISI FULL DAY SIGHTSEEING
After breakfast, continue Tbilisi City tour. Drive to the David Agmashenebeli Avenue and take a walk in
the renovated “New Tiflis” area. Here, we can make a stop at the Tbilisi Flea Market on Dry Bridge,
where you will find vast assortment of antique, such as hand-made jewelry, old military medals from
World War II, Soviet style cutlery, old enamel, vintage cameras and many more.
From Dry Bridge we drive to the Tbilisi Old Town. We are going to visit Anchiskhati basilica – the oldest
church (built in the 6th century) in the city, the Residence of the Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox
Church – the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Tbilisi, which is also one of the tallest orthodox churches in the
world.
Move towards the Rike park, cross the glass Bridge of Peace, and take a cable car from the car that takes
us to the Narikala Fortress, a medieval fortress situated on the mountain overlooking Tbilisi. Finally, we
stroll down from Narikala back to the old districts, visit LegvtaKhevi canyon and waterfall and continue
to Sulfur Bathhouse District (Abanotubani), Meidan square and Shardeni street. There are lots of
outdoor cafes, bars, restaurants, art galleries and souvenir shops in these areas.
In the evening go up to the Mtatsminda mountain by a funicular tram, where we can visit the
Mtatsminda Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures – largest necropolis in Tbilisi, where some of the
prominent writers, artists, scientists and other public figures are buried.
Have a gala dinner in Traditional Georgian restaurant with folk show.
Overnight in Tbilisi.

DAY 10: TBILISI – AIRPORT
After breakfast check-out from the hotel and transfer to Tbilisi International airport for departure.

Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, with an area of 24,100 km2 (9,305 sq mi). West of Sardinia is the Sea of Sardinia, a unit of the Mediterranean Sea; to Sardinia's east is the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is also an element of the Mediterranean Sea. The coasts of Sardinia are 1,849 km (1,149 mi) long. They are generally high and rocky, with long, relatively straight stretches of coastline, many outstanding headlands, a few wide, deep bays, many inlets and with various smaller islands off the coast.

It was originally covered by a dense forest, but now it shows all the typical aspects characteristic of an antropized Mediterranean area, which allows us to understand how man can influence the transformation or conservation of a territory, creating very different environments. The fires, tree felling, excesive shepherding, and lately, uncontrolled tourism, are the main cause of this transformation. Despite all of this, the Giara still conserves a wide variety of nature.

Visit the ARCHAEOLOGICAL AREA "SU NURAXI"
Barumini in central-southern Sardinia was the main center of a very rich territory, and today it is one of the most fascinating cultural sites on the island, known mainly for the archaeological area of Su Nuraxi.
Su Nuraxi is an archaeological site discovered by the archaeologist Giovanni Lilliu during the 1940s and 1950s, and this is the only archaeological site to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The Grotta di Ispinigoli is one of the underground wonders of the Island near Dorgali and it is one of the largest caves on the island.
In this cave, we can find, between a stalactite-stalagmite compound, the tallest in Europe and one of the tallest in the world. After going through the entrance, from the natural terrace, you will be captivated by a 38-meter high column.
Inside of the cave is a game of colors and contrasts, getting gradually more intense as you go deeper down via the steps, brushing against the yellowish limestone with various forms and undertones until you reach the base of the huge column.

Visit the Tombe dei Giganti di Coddu Vecchiu
The tomb of the giants of Coddu 'Ecchju is a collective tomb that probably housed the dead from the nearby village of La Prisgiona. Despite the name, that sites were not the burial place of any giants, they were gigantic communal burial chambers.
The tombs were built by the Nuragic civilization, which lived in Sardinia from the second millennium B.C. to the second century A.D.

This breath-taking sacred well and temple includes the extraordinary Bronze-Age ‘tempio a pozzo’ , one of the best preserved in the Mediterranean, and a fantastic “nuraghe” tower and a church, showing how strong the devotion for water remained alive for millennia until nowadays.

Sinis Peninsula (beaches, Tharros, and Cabras)
This unspoilt paradise is recognized by the European Commission as an "Eden" destination of excellence, a very special natural setting where you can enjoy any outdoor activity throughout the whole year. This multi-coloured collection of land and lake settings slopes gently towards the beaches and cliffs.
In this territory you will find history, like the Archeological Area of Tharros. This city was founded at the end of the 8th century BC, in an area already populated during the Nuragic period. The necropolises and the tophet represent the main evidence of the Phoenician colony of Tharros.

Monte Urpino:
This high hill offers panoramic views on both sides of the city of Cagliari, wih view to the lagune, home of the pink flamingoes, and many other gorgeous scenes to enjoy.
Molentargius Park:
This regional parl includes two freshwater ponds and a saltwater pond. The history of the park is strongly connected with the Salt Works, and actually ows its name to the molentargius, the people who used to lead the donkey carrying the salt collected from the basins. Visiting this park is a great experience, as it combines the historical knowledge with a full immersion in an extraordinary wild landscape.
Poetto beach:
This vast and stunning city beach offers relaxation, fun and sport on a soft and white sand and a beautiful blue and transparent sea; also being a perfect stop to enjoy a coffee or aperitif accompanied by the sea breeze.
San Benedetto local food market:
This local and traditional market is one of the largest city markets in Europe. The early morning is the ideal time to visit it an immerse yourself in the local culture and traditions, shopping through the different stands and discovering local products and people. Here you will find a lively environment, with colours and intense aroma.

Early depart for Kuala Lumpur via Rome
Assemble at Cagliary Airport for 7am flight to Kuala Lumpur. Transit in Rome for 1hr 15min and depart for Abu Dhabi with a 4hr 45mins layover. Depart for Kuala Lumpur at 11.10pm. Arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 10.20am. (Total travel time: 20hr 20min)
