Exceptional experience even for a Malaysian
Exceptional experience even for a Malaysian: great landscapes, stories, and unforgettable moments whizzing through paddy fields, village roads, sampling edible flowers, and a delightful tea break. Lunch was in a hut by the paddy fields. Also appreciated the safety briefing and orientation ahead of the trip. Thanks again, we’ll return!

Safe, ethical, cultural tour
We went on the 1.0 trip. Excellent quality bikes and the most beautiful scenic bike ride ever! Our guides were knowledgeable, kind and respectful of the locals and their communities. I learned so much more today than expected about food, work and culture in Malaysia. Lunch provided was beautiful as was the location and food was home made by someone in the local community. The ride wasn’t too difficult as it’s mostly flat. If you’re not sure how to use a mountain bike they will explain this to you. Our guides took videos and photos along the way which was an added touch. I felt safe, welcomed and entertained the whole time. This was one of our favorite activities in Malaysia on our trip. Thank you so much and good luck with your future ventures. I hope you win the trip advisor award!!

Weer een ervaring rijker .
Een geweldige tour . Wij hebben er al veel mogen ervaren in diverse landen maar deze was ECHT top geregeld .alles was super georganiseerd en en het eten bij de lokale bevolking was erg leuk . Lunchen tussen de rijstvelden was leuk bedacht ( geen Luxe ) en mooi om mee te maken . Uiteindelijk 34 km gefietst en aan het einde van de rit nog lekker kunnen zwemmen aan een mooi strand . Matahari nogmaals bedankt . Gr fam van de griendt from holland ( Oisterwijk )

We did a very nice daytour with Matahari. The bikes are superb and the tour is a very nice mix from cycling and learning things about the country and living on Penang. So nice to be in a beautiful peaceful part of Penang when you want to escape the crowded Georgetown.

Authentic Penang, away from the tourist traps.
This tour was one of the best tours we’ve ever done over the course of our many holidays. It took us away from the main tourist strip and allowed us to have a more authentic cultural experience. We saw the countryside, villages, local industry, old houses (which are still being lived in) and small religious sites. We had a number of stops to taste local produce and cuisine. We had the local wildlife pointed out to us along the way. Priscilla and SJ were informative and entertaining. I did the tour with my husband and two teenage kids, and we were joined by a lovely solo traveller who was continuing on to a longer ride. We all enjoyed the tour, no easy task with teenaged kids. I’m not particularly fit, but I found the ride doable. The more accomplished riders were allowed to go on ahead. There are two cycling tour operators in Penang. Both get excellent reviews, but we chose Matahari due to its attention to safety and equipment maintenance. Our bikes were excellent and fitted to our height and weight. I have a microscopic head, often requiring a kid’s size helmet. SJ ensured I had an appropriately fitted helmet before we left. Nothing was too much trouble. I loved this tour. Fresh air. Nature. No tourist traps. Education. Entertainment. Nice food. And a bit of exercise. I will do this again. But the longer your next time.

A must do for everyone!
Absolutely fabulous! Well organised, professional, clear and prompt communication both before and after, quality bikes, very hospitable, and passionate about educating and sharing the hidden gems of Malaysia. A wonderful way to get out of George Town and experience the countryside. I couldn’t recommend the tour more highly. A must do for everyone. I am a 49 woman, who doesn’t usual cycle, and found it extremely enjoyable and very doable (almost easy).

Beautiful scenery

We chose the “PPA2” countryside cycling tour for our family with 2 teenagers. The cycling was nice and easy even in the heat, all on nice safe trails with beautiful scenery. Princila and SJ were both so knowledgable, super friendly and most importantly our safety was their priority

A return visit
Another excellent trip with the team at Matahari. Really informative, friendly, fun half day tour . Met lots of locals......including the wildlife and learnt much about traditional village life in Penang . Thank you so much....again !

A must do trip if you are in Penang
Fantastic off the beaten track experience, which gave a wonderful insight to traditional Malaysian life. Both Princilia and SJ were great guides and a fountain of local knowledge.

パームヤシについての考えがかわります
送迎はぴったりと約束した時間に来てくれました。また、当日までも綿密な調整と連絡があり、とても安心でした。自転車はちゃんとギアが動き、メンテナンスもされています。自然の中を走り、風や匂いや音を感じて没頭できます。これまでタクシーや電車での移動ばかりだったので、ひさびさの時力での運動は新鮮でした。ところどころで停車して、ペナンの文化や植物、風土についての説明があります。その間にペットボトルに水を継ぎ足してくれるのが大助かり！ツアー全体に気が利いています。疲れたら自転車を降りて車に乗り換えることもできるようで、お年寄りや小さい子供連れには体調などをこまめにヒアリングしながら、そのようなサポートをしていました。素晴らしいなと思います。パームヤシは現在、動物の生息地や環境、児童労働などの点で問題になっているものの1つですが、ここペナンにおいてパームヤシは重要な収入源であり、ゴム栽培よりも生活を豊かにすることができ、長年にわたって収入を得られる術であることを知りました。マレーシアの現状を見ずに、パーム油について悪者のように切り捨てるのではなく、自然の中でうまく循環するように、また現地の方々の生活や環境を壊さないように継続していければよいなと願います。考えることも多く、発見も気づきもあり、ガイドにとても感謝する一日でした。最後のランチのラクサ、チャークイティオ（日本人にも辛くないモチモチ麺の海鮮焼きそば）は本当に美味でした。ありがとうございます。とてもおすすめです。

Well worthwhile!
We had a great time. Matahari took care of everything including the driver, bikes, water, helmets, etc. All of the equipment was in great condition. It’s a 50 minute ride from Georgetown but the experience was worthwhile. Got to see another side of Malaysia, biking through the countryside. We took the short version of the tour and it was perfect for us. Picked up from our hotel at around 7am and started biking before the day got hot and ended a little before noon. Princilia was with us most of the time and she explained the history of Penang and various local customs and cultures. Her personal background itself is also very fascinating.

Believe the hype!
Believe the hype from the previous reviews. I’m always dubious about reviews that say it was the highlight of the trip, but it is actually true! I had such a fabulous time with Princilia and SJ, they were so kind and knowledgeable. Due to some cancellations it was only myself and another traveller, both of us a little nervous that the tour may be too strenuous or fast paced. We were quickly put at ease by the team, and taken great care of. As a plus size traveller, I am often concerned regarding how strenuous a tour may be or if the equipment would be suitable, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this tour 100%, and if you have concerns regarding your suitability of the tour, all the staff are so kind and responsive. I will be doing another tour on my next visit.
