What do you understand about Jaundice?

Q: 我的宝宝有黄疸，是不是怀孕时没有照顾好身体？
Q: My baby has jaundice. Is it due to my poor prenatal care?

A: 新生儿黄疸（neonatal jaundice）是新生儿中非常普遍的问题，特别是早产儿，和孕期照顾没有直接关联。
A: Neonatal jaundice is a very common problem in newborns, especially premature babies, and it is not directly related to care during pregnancy.

Q: 为什么黄疸宝宝眼白或皮肤发黄？
Q: Why do jaundice babies have yellow discoloration of eyes and skin?

A: 宝宝红血球中的血红素（haemoglobin）在代谢过程中被分解产生胆红素（bilirubin）。胆红素再由肝脏代谢后随粪便排出体外。胆红素高出正常范围时，使眼白和皮肤发黄。
A: Haemoglobin in the baby's red blood cells is broken down during metabolism to produce bilirubin. The bilirubin is then metabolized by the liver and then excreted in the f***s. When the bilirubin is higher than the normal range, it makes the whites of the eyes and the skin yellow.

Q: 宝宝有黄疸，如何是好？
Q: My baby has jaundice, what should I do?

A: 大部分新生儿黄疸是生理性的，不用特别治疗，黄疸在宝宝成长过程中渐渐会消失。
定期检验宝宝，确保黄疸指数不高于标准。如果指数过高，则需要进行光照治疗。
有一部分的新生儿黄疸是病理性的，需要查出病因对症下药。病理性的新生儿黄疸通常在宝宝出生24小时内出现，或者出生14天后还在延续。

A: Most neonatal jaundice is physiological, without special treatment, the jaundice will gradually disappear as the baby grows up.
Regular checkup should be done to ensure that the jaundice index is not higher than the standard for hospitalization. If the index is too high, phototherapy is needed to reduce the level.
A part of neonatal jaundice is pathological, and it is necessary to find out the cause and prescribe the right medicine. Pathological neonatal jaundice usually appears within 24 hours of the baby's birth, or continues after 14 days of birth.

Q: 我的宝宝黄疸指数多少才需要入院治疗？
Q: What is the jaundice index of my baby before he needs to be admitted to the hospital?

A: 爸爸妈妈们不必去背那个入院治疗的指数，毕竟不同周数出生的宝宝或不同天数的宝宝的治疗标准都不一样。医生会根据标准来断定。
A: Moms and dads don't have to recite to the index of admission for treatment. After all, the treatment standards for babies born in different weeks or different days are different. The doctor will judge according to the standard.

Q: 黄疸会构造后遗症吗？宝宝需要治疗，但是我想把宝宝留在家中照顾，可以吗？

A: 胆红素过高，若没有及时治疗，胆红素可从血液进入中枢神经系统，造成后遗症，例如kernicterus，伤害脑部。

Yellow Baby有提供给宝宝去黄的照光灯，是使用一定波长和强度的蓝光，而不是太阳光，并且有特别照顾宝宝的眼睛，确保宝宝的眼睛不受伤。同时，我们也会安排医生上门看诊服务，妈妈们可以无时无刻留在家中照顾宝宝。

A: Bilirubin is too high. If it is not treated in time, bilirubin can enter the central nervous system from the blood and cause sequelae, such as kernicterus, which can damage the brain.

Yellow Baby provides phototherapy to reduce the amount of bilirubin in baby. It uses blue light of a certain wavelength and intensity instead of sunlight, and takes special care of the baby's eyes to ensure that the baby's eyes are not injured. At the same time, we will also arrange for doctors consultation at home so that mothers can stay at home and take care of their babies at all times.

Q: 我该不该停止母乳喂养有黄疸的宝宝？

A: 母乳喂养不足的黄疸（breastfeeding jaundice）是因喂养不足，宝宝排便少，导致胆红素代谢排出慢而产生的黄疸。充足的喂养才是对宝宝有帮助的。

母乳造成的黄疸（breastmilk jaundice）是母乳本身某种成分被宝宝吸收后，使宝宝的肝代谢胆红素慢。尽管如此，妈妈并不需要停止喂养，而是持续以母乳喂养。宝宝的肝脏效率提高后便能有效排出胆红素。

A: Breastfeeding jaundice is jaundice that is caused by insufficient feeding and low bowel movements of the baby, resulting in slow metabolism and excretion of bilirubin. Adequate feeding is helpful to the baby.

Breastmilk jaundice is the slow metabolism of bilirubin by the baby's liver after a certain component of breastmilk itself is absorbed by the baby. Nevertheless, mothers do not need to stop feeding, but continue to breastfeed. After the baby's liver efficiency is improved, bilirubin can be effectively discharged.
