Polana hotel (1922), designed by Herbert Baker

Polana was the name of an African chief who had lived near the site. His lands were sold to Sommerschield without compensation and his descendants were evicted in 1946. There was a tramway at the time that ended at hotel. (Source: Maputo Architectural and Tourist Guide by Philip Schauer)

Polana hotel is one of the most historic buildings in Maputo that are over a 100 years old. What others do you know?
