Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company (LWDC) CEO, Hon. Fluksman Samuehl, attended the memorial service of Founding President Sam Nujoma in Lüderitz, paying tribute to his lasting impact on Namibia’s development.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Comrade Sam Nujoma at the age of 95 on Saturday, 8 February 2025,” said Samuehl.

“As a Namibian leader with a long-term vision, he championed practical initiatives to revive Lüderitz, once an abandoned harbor town. His vision led to the birth of LWDC, which today plays a major role in the economic development of Lüderitz and the //Kharas region.”

LWDC honors his remarkable legacy and commitment to Namibia’s progress.

Outgoing Director, Ms Natalie Russman, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung KAS Namibia/ Angola Office.

The LWDC CEO, Hon. Fluksman Samuehl, paid a courtesy call on the KAS Director yesterday.

The LWDC and KAS collaborated on a youth empowerment initiative. This close collaboration between the two organisations will continue in light of the need to roll out joint initiatives for the benefit of youth empowerment.

Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company CEO pays tribute to Nujoma

Chief executive officer (CEO) of the Lüderitz Waterfront Development Company (LWDC) Fluksman Samuehl has paid tribute to founding president Sam Nujoma.

“It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of comrade Sam Nujoma at the age of 95 on Saturday, 8 February 2025,” says Samuehl.

“As a Namibian leader with a long-term vision, he was clear and supported practical initiatives to revive the once abandoned harbour town of Lüderitz. This culminated in the birth of LWDC, which plays a major role in the economic development of the harbour town and the //Kharas region today,” he says.

According to the CEO, the LWDC owes a great debt of gratitude to the founding president.

“We, therefore, pay tribute to this great leader who taught us what servant leadership is really about. With his courage, determination and perseverance he led our country towards national independence and democracy during a difficult time,” he says.

“We send our condolences to the founding first lady, the Nujoma and Kondombolo families, and share the sense of loss felt by all Namibians, Africa, and the world over.

“Let the soul of comrade Sam Nujoma rest in eternal peace,” he adds.

It is with profound sorrow that we share the passing of Namibia’s founding President, Dr Sam Nujoma, on 8 February 2025.

His visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to national progress have significantly shaped the development and legacy of Lüderitz.

Dr Nujoma’s influence in our region is exemplified by his inauguration of the Lüderitz Waterfront in 2002 and has been supporting the economic revival of the once abondoned harbour town of Luderitz.

His advocacy for education and heritage during his visit to the Namibia Maritime Museum Project, along with his symbolic tree-planting at the NovaNam factory, underscored his deep belief in Lüderitz’s future. Furthermore, his inauguration of the SS Nujoma reinforced his commitment to advancing Namibia’s maritime sector.

We honour his enduring legacy and remain inspired by his dedication to the progress of Lüderitz and our nation.

Rest in peace, Dr Sam Nujoma.

Announcement of the Passing of the Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and Founding Father of the Nation, His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma


Fellow Namibians

The foundations of the Republic of Namibia have been shaken. Over the past three weeks, the Founding President of the Republic of Namibia and Founding Father of the Namibian Nation was hospitalized for medical treatment and medical observation due to ill health. Unfortunately, this time, the most gallant son of our land could not recover from his illness.

It is therefore with utmost sorrow and sadness that I announce this morning of the 9th of February 2025 to the Namibian people, our African brothers and sisters and the world at large, about the passing of our revered freedom fighter and revolutionary leader, H.E. Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma. President Nujoma passed on at the age of 95 on the 8th of February at 23h45 in Windhoek, Namibia.

Our Founding Father lived a long and consequential life during which he exceptionally served the people of his beloved country. Our Founding Father heroically marshalled the Namibian people during the darkest hours of our liberation struggle until the attainment of freedom and independence on the 21st of March 1990.

As Founding President, His Excellency, Dr. Sam Nujoma provided maximum leadership to our nation and spared no effort to motivate each and every Namibian to build a country that would stand tall and proud among the nations of the world. In that vein, our venerable leader, Dr. Nujoma did not only blaze the trail to freedom – but he also inspired us to rise to our feet and to become masters of this vast land of our ancestors.

During this period of national mourning, we should be comforted by the unmatched leadership and extraordinary contributions of President Nujoma to the liberation struggle, the development and unity of the Namibian people.

I would like to thank the medical staff who cared diligently for our treasured leader. Also, I would like to thank Namibians and friends of Namibia who extended messages and prayers of recovery to our Founding Father and Founding President, His Excellency, Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma.

On behalf of the people and the Government of the Republic of Namibia, I convey my sincere condolences to the Founding First Lady of the Republic of Namibia, Her Excellency Kovambo Nujoma, Honorable Utoni Nujoma, the children, as well as the entire Nujoma and Kondombolo Family.

Following consultations with the Nujoma and Kondombolo family, the Government of the Republic of Namibia will announce a period of national mourning and burial arrangements.
