Jackals are primarily scavengers, but are opportunistic hunters too. They often feed on carcasses (in this case a Cape fur seal), but they can hunt small mammals, birds, insects, and reptiles when the opportunity arises. Their diet is quite varied, making them adaptable survivors, a needed trait in the Namib Desert.
