We'd like to highlight another remarkable animal we've started tracking this year: the ocean sunfish (Mola Mola). While it’s a rare sight, encountering one is always a marvel, as it’s one of the most unusual fish you can find in our Namibian waters.

The ocean sunfish is the heaviest bony fish, weighing in at around 2.5 tons. Females can lay up to 300 million eggs at once, and despite their massive size, they mainly feast on jellyfish, small fish, and algae. Their enormous stomachs help them process large amounts of jellyfish, making them experts at surviving on a low-nutrient diet.

With the help of Catamaran Charters, we aim to establish a pattern of sightings and gain a deeper understanding of this incredible creature.
