Lunch stop at Alte Kalköfen Lodge 🍽
Nestled between Keetmanshoop and Lüderitz, Alte Kalköfen Lodge offers the perfect stopover for lunch, overnight stays, or a beautiful venue for weddings and events. It’s also a great base for exploring nearby attractions like the Fish River Canyon.

The Story Behind Alte Kalköfen 🌵
Alte Kalköfen Lodge was built with two main goals: to preserve the natural habitat and to provide guests with an immersive nature experience. Located on the Sandverhaar and Simplon farms in Namibia’s Karas Region, the lodge remains committed to eco-friendly practices that maintain harmony between nature and humans. The original land purchase contract, signed by Frikkie’s father in 1989, is still kept today.

What is a “Kalkofen”?
The lodge’s name comes from two historic limestone ovens on the farm, the oldest in Namibia. One oven, built in 1906 by German Schutztruppe George Köttker, was used to produce lime for buildings in Kolmanskop, Lüderitz, Keetmanshoop and other small towns in the South. It operated until the 1970s. The second oven was constructed in the late 1800s and also used to produce lime for buildings. The farm’s name, Simplon, was inspired by George’s wife, Frieda Mueller, who hailed from Simplon, Switzerland.
