Namibia Training Authority Established under the Vocational Education and Training Act of 2008 to regulate the provision of Vocational Education and Training in Namibia.
(112)

The Namibia Training Authority was established by the Vocational Education and Training Act (Act 1 of 2008) to regulate and fund the provision of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Namibia by ensuring that VET programmes and services meet current and future business and industry needs. It leads and manages Vocational Education and Training towards the establishment of a sustainable skills

system that will ensure that a growing number and diversity of Namibians acquire the skills needed in our economy. The NTA does so by:
• Developing appropriate policies on Vocational Education and Training in response to current and emerging priorities for skills development and provide guidance in the operationalization of such policies;
• Ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in Vocational Education and Training in producing a competent and employable workforce for an industrialised Namibia.
• Transforming the Vocational Education and Training system into a dynamic component of Namibia’s pursuit of higher standards of living through industrialization and the development of a knowledge-based economy;
• Monitor regional and global developments in Vocational Education and Training and apply such experiences as appropriate to the Namibian Vocational Education and Training system.

WORLDSKILLS2024 | A major global coalition of government, policy, industry, and education leaders, along with young people, convened to discuss the future of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems at the ongoing WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France.

The event highlighted the urgent need to equip young people with skills for an evolving and uncertain future.

French Ministers Catherine Vautrin and Nicole Belloubet opened the conference, followed by Chris Humphries, President of WorldSkills, who stressed the importance of prioritising skills development ahead of the UN Summit of the Future.

Global leaders, including representatives from the African Union, called for elevating TVET’s status and ensuring adequate resources.

Key themes included gender equity, excellence in TVET, and shifting perceptions of vocational training.

Speakers emphasised the potential of TVET to bridge gaps between jobs, skills, and aspirations while highlighting successful strategies to increase women’s participation in STEM fields and improve quality assurance in vocational education systems worldwide.
