Dear Travelers & Residents,

⚠️ Current Flooding & Road Conditions:
✅ Hoaruseb River reached the ocean again
✅ Hoanib River in full flood past Khowarib
✅ Uniab River has blocked access to Terrace Bay and is in full flood past Palmwag
✅ Koigab River has cut off C34 & C39
✅ Aba-Huab & Huab Rivers are in flood
✅ Ugab River in full flood – Brandberg White Lady Lodge received 95mm in 24 hours, now completely cut off
✅ C35 slippery & washed out
✅ Omaruru River surging towards Omdel Dam
✅ Swakopmund experiencing flooding
✅ C14 dangerously slippery
✅ Road to Waterberg cut off due to flooding
✅ Gravel roads near Otjiwarongo & Otavi extremely slippery – high risk of skidding even at low speeds
✅ Hardap & Fish Rivers in flood, Naute Dam over 50% full
✅ Heavy storms around Deadvlei & Sossusvlei dunes
✅ Tsauchab River & tributaries flooding again

📢 Travel Advisory:
❌ Do not attempt to cross flooded rivers
❌ Avoid non-essential travel on affected roads
❌ Gravel roads are extremely slippery – exercise extreme caution

Essential Tips for Visiting Sossusvlei

🌅 **Gate Access & Timing** – The salt pans and dunes can only be accessed during Sesriem gate hours, from sunrise to sunset, every day of the week.

🏕️ **Stay Inside the Park** – Opt for accommodation within the park to enjoy exclusive access—one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset.

🎟️ **Entry Permits** – Permits for the Namib-Naukluft National Park are available at the Sesriem office and will be checked when crossing the inner gate.

🚙 **Driving to the Dunes** – If you're not confident driving the last 5 km in thick sand, use the shuttle. Self-drivers should deflate tyres and switch to 4WD.

📸 **Best Photo Strategy** – Skip Dune 45 at sunrise and head straight to Deadvlei and Sossusvlei for stunning early morning light. You can visit Dune 45 on your way back.

🥾 **Footwear Matters** – Wear closed shoes; the sand heats up quickly once the sun is out.

🚻 **Restroom Stops** – Toilets are available at Dune 45 parking, the 2x4 parking area, and the Sossusvlei 4x4 parking.

💧 **Stay Hydrated** – Bring at least **2.5L of water per person**, especially if you plan to climb the dunes.

🚫 **No Plastic Bags** – Namibia’s National Parks prohibit plastic bags. Pack food in paper bags or reusable containers.

By planning ahead, you’ll make the most of your Sossusvlei adventure!
