📣 Farewell to a Remarkable Leader Olufemi Bamgbose 📣

Yesterday marked a poignant moment at FUNAAB Zoo Park as we bid farewell to Mr. Olufemi Bamgbose, who has gracefully retired active service. His unwavering dedication, intelligence, and remarkable humility have left an indelible mark on our Zoo Park.

Mr. Bamgbose's selfless service to Funaab Zoological PARK and the university at large has been truly commendable. The entire Zoo Park Family will miss his expertise and leadership. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for his invaluable contributions over the years.

Additionally, we took a moment to acknowledge Mrs. Ibukun Olawuwo, who has been transferred to another unit. Her dedication and hard work have been greatly appreciated during her time at FUNAAB Zoo Park.

As we bid farewell to these outstanding individuals, we wish Mr. Olufemi Bamgbose a fulfilling and joyous retirement. To Mrs. Ibukun Olawuwo, may your new journey bring you continued success and fulfillment.

🦁🌿📸 Keeper's Talk: Wildlife Capture and Transportation 📸🌿🦁

Today was an enlightening day at our zoo as our Industrial Training students gathered to listen to the informative talk on "Capture and Transportation of Wild Animals."

Mr. Hussein, our resource person, delved deep into the meaning of wildlife capture, why it's necessary, and the methods employed, be it physical or chemical. He left no stone unturned as he elaborated on the pros and cons of each method.

Keeper's Talk is a remarkable platform where our dedicated keepers and curators engage with the next generation of conservationists, our INDUSTRIAL TRAINING students.

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to our Chief Curators, Mr. Bamgbose and Mr. Emmanuel, whose invaluable contributions make such events possible. A special shoutout to Mr. Ibiyomi Matthew, our Assistant Chief Zoo Superintendent, for his invaluable technical inputs.

Mr. Hussein, our resource person, deserves our applause for doing justice to this vital topic.

Our gratitude extends to Mr. Somoye, the moderator, and all our diligent curators, including Mr. Duke, for their support throughout this event.

We also had the honor of welcoming Mrs. Mustafa, the zoo keeper, whose presence added to the richness of our discussion.

Meet the African Grey Parrot: a fascinating and intelligent bird that can make a great addition to any family. These birds are known for their incredible ability to mimic human speech and have been popular pets for centuries. At Funaab Zoological Park, we are lucky to have two African grey parrots as part of our collection.

African grey parrots are medium-sized birds that can grow up to 33 centimetres in length. They are native to the rainforests of West and Central Africa and are often found in the wild in large flocks. These birds have distinctive grey feathers, with a white or black mask around their eyes and a bright red tail. Their beaks are strong and curved and are perfect for cracking open nuts and seeds.

One of the most impressive things about African grey parrots is their ability to mimic human speech. They have a highly developed vocal system and can learn words and phrases with incredible accuracy. Some African grey parrots have even been known to have vocabularies of over 1,000 words! They can also mimic sounds such as laughter, doorbells, and even music.

In addition to their impressive language skills, African grey parrots are also highly intelligent birds. They have been observed using tools in the wild, such as using sticks to extract insects from tree bark. In captivity, they enjoy solving puzzles and playing with toys.

At Funaab Zoological Park, we provide our African grey parrots with plenty of opportunities to exercise their brains and stay entertained. We also make sure they have a balanced diet that includes plenty of fresh fruits as well as pellets and nuts.

If you're thinking about adding an African grey parrot to your family, it's important to remember that these birds require a lot of attention and care. They are social creatures and need plenty of interaction with their owners. They also require a spacious cage and plenty of toys and activities to keep them mentally stimulated.
