COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS NIGERIANS HAVE ABOUT VISAS AND TRAVELLING ABROAD.

We shall be dealing with these issues once every week, so stay tuned!

MISCONCEPTION # 1:
You Ask the Agent: "Which country do you have available...?"

Wrong question! Wrong mentality!

We do not "sell" countries or sell Visas like vegetables in the market.

YOUR MINDSET SHOULD BE: which country's visa do I qualify for?!
You do not approach travelling / Visa application like a lottery.

Nigerans are known for their reluctance to do anything by themselves, they rely on someone else to do the heavy lifting…

However, to be successful in your search for greener pastures, YOU NEED TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH about the various countries that interest you... Find out the countries that need your skill set (if you plan to migrate) or countries that offer the type of training or education you desire.

MISCONCEPTION #2:
"I will start working the next day I arrive the abroad..."

Nope! Not so my friend.
Unless you are a Doctor, Nurse or Medical personnel; in which case, you most likely would have gotten a job offer before leaving Nigeria, and consequently you have a guaranteed job on arrival.

Otherwise, you always certainly have to face a period of adaptation especially if you’re emigrating.
Like, you will need to find an apartment, furnish it, buy groceries, purchase Bus or Train Passes (or buy a car if you have the money).

In practically every case, you will have to spend time all by yourself getting to know your new environment and searching for a job... because that friend / cousin / contact you have over there will be too busy with his or her own job to take you around by the hand.

COVID-19: EU excludes US, Nigeria from List of 54 Countries Allowed To Visit Europe

Nigeria, United States of America, Russia and Brazil have been BLACKLISTED from the list of 54 countries whose travellers could be received into Europe when the borders reopen on July 1.

Schengenvisainfo.com reported that the European Union Commission released a list of 54 countries that qualified for travels into Europe as the union opens its borders that were shut to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The commission said that citizens of Brazil, Qatar, the US and Russia would only be able to enter Europe at a later date when the epidemiological situation in these countries improves.

The countries from which travellers are permitted to enter Europe are listed as: Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Australia, Bahamas, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada.

Others listed are China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Dominica, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Guyana, India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Lebanon and Mauritius.

More countries include Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Palau, Paraguay, Rwanda, Saint Lucia, Serbia, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vatican City, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zambia.

The EU Commission spokesman, Eric Mamer, said the union had the right to choose who would enter its borders.

“The European Union has an internal process to determine from which countries it would be safe to accept travellers,” he said, adding that it was “based on health criteria.”

On June 11, the commission presented its recommendation on the reopening of internal Schengen borders on June 15, so that Europeans could travel within the borderless area freely, just as they did pre-pandemic.

Trump restricts immigration from Nigeria and five other countries…

How does the US travel ban affect you?

The US announced on Friday January 31st 2020, that it is expanding its curbs on immigration to include six more countries, including Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation.

Citizens from Nigeria, Eritrea, Sudan, Tanzania, Kyrgyzstan and Myanmar will now be blocked from obtaining certain types of immigrant visas, particularly those that can lead to permanent residency.

According to US government statistics, the State Department issued 8,018 immigrant visas to Nigerians in the fiscal year 2018.

Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf said immigrant visas were chosen because people with that visa are the most difficult to remove after arriving in the United States.

People from those countries will still however be able to apply for non-immigrant Visas to visit the US temporarily as tourists or for business and medical purposes.

HOW DOES THE US TRAVEL BAN AFFECT YOU?
1. This is NOT a blanket ban on US visas.

2. You can still apply for B1/B2 Non-Immigrant Visas for Tourism / Business / Medical purposes

3. Student Visas are not affected.

4. Most immigrant Visas to be affected are visas for family reunification (spouses, children, family members, etc…)
5) Yes, you can still apply for a Tourist Visa to go on Holiday in the USA!!🤗🤗
