When do our body consumes the highest energy?

Our body burns more energy when we sleep than when we are awake.
Despite the fact that you are resting, your body still consumes energy when you sleep. Energy use is particularly high during REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. During this time, your brain is highly active and you burn the most glucose, your body’s source of fuel. Your heart rate and blood pressure also rise during this time, which burns more calories.

Ever wondered why you usually wake tired from sleep? That's because your body has been doing lot of work while you were at sleep. During the night, your body goes to work repairing any damage done on a cellular level during your working hours. For instance, if you exercise during the day, your muscles will recover and repair themselves at night, which requires energy. Food digestion also uses energy, as your body breaks down your meal into usable fuel for the following day. We burn between 40 – 80 calories an hour when we sleep. So in an 8-hour window, you can expect to burn between 320 – 640 calories per night.

Believe It Or Not

Lending wives to visitors.

In Himba tribe located in Namibia, it's a common practice for a husband to give his wife to a guest to warm his bed on the day he arrives at night. They call it ‘Okujepisa Omukazendu’ treatment. When the husband ‘lends out’ his wife to a guest as tradition demands, he (the husband) sleeps in a different room, and in cases where the house is small, he has to make do with spending the night out of the house staring at the stars as the wife welcomes their guest.
If the wife refuses to have s*x with the visitor, she has to give her best friend to his husband to enjoy.

This handed down tradition has its “benefits” in the community: they believe it reduces jealousy and fosters relationships within their community and neighborhood.

Believe It Or Not

Concubine is a famous word people often used to remember King Solomon. The practice is valid and legal in some part of the world today.

For clarity, what's is concubine or it's practice (Concubinage)?

Concubinage is an interpersonal and s*xual relationship between a man and a woman in which the couple does not want or cannot enter into a full marriage.

In Igbo land, a wife has to get her husband a lady (concubine) who will attend to her husband s*xual needs especially when she puts to bed. Usually the lady concubine has to be the wife's friend, this is done for mutual understanding.
This practice may no longer be practiced as civilization has changed lots of things in our world but claims have it that some people still practice this act on code.

If you've ever feared the d.e.a.d just know that some people cuddle and pamper d.ea.d people.

The Toraja people keep their d.e_a.d relatives at home, feeding and cuddling their bodies.
They don't want to miss their lost ones so much, so they provide them with care and affection before bur_iel and then when they are finally bu_ried, they dig them up once a year for a celebration.

What others are afraid is actually some people's toy.

Believe It or not.

Wait a minute, I've to catch my breath first. The Toraja tribe has been raising the d.e.ad for years. Really?

The Toraja people of Indonesia practise this culture of putting a d.e.a.d body in a temporary coffin before resurrecting 'it'.

In villages located in the mountains of South Sulawesi in Indonesia, shamans have reportedly been raising the dead for centuries.

According to the religious beliefs of the Toraja people, in order for a d.eceased person to reach the afterlife known as “Puya” or “The Land of Souls”, their co**se must be returned to the place of their birth for burial.

The co**se is raised from the d.e.ad and walks to its new resting place.

Fact in Toraja, every person must be b.uried in their place of birth.

There is a building in India that does not cast shadow. No matter the level of the sun, especially at noon, you won't see the shadow of the building. Normally every building cast shadow at some point of the day depending on the position of the sun. But in an Indian temple the case is different.
The Brihadeeswara Temple in Thanjavur(Tanjore) is a world wonder. The temple was built in the 11th century and till date the building is still standing. The temple is built with granite and note that granites were not found around that region, so the question has been where and how did they gather such amount of granites to build such edifice?
The temple has become a UNESCO World Heritage Site attracting millions of tourists...

Believe It Or Not

Saturdays are for wedding and today is just one. Polygamy is normal and common in so many cultures, where a man can marry many wives, but have you heard of the opposite "Polyandry" where a woman can marry more than one man at the same time? They may live together or separately and the woman will be visiting them in their houses per her schedule.

Let's look at some cultures that still practice polyandry.

Kenya. The Maasai people practice this. In 2013, a Kenya woman married two men at the same time and they are living together in peace.

South America. The Bororo tribes and the Amazonians hold this practice till date. A woman can marry more than two men and live with them at the same time.

China. The Tibet tribe in China practice this. In their case two or more brothers or friends can decide to marry one woman to be their wife. They all have equal access to her. This case is usually practiced among the poor in the society.

Nigeria. It used to be a common practice among the Irigwe people in North Central part of Nigeria for a woman to marry as many men as she likes during her lifetime. For clarity, Irigwe also known as Nneirigwe and called Miango by Hausas, is found in Bassa LGA of Plateau State. However it was abolished in 1968 but whether or not it's still in practice, let's investigate.

India. Several tribes in India hold the practice till date. The tribes that prescribe to this tradition are Paharis, Himachal, Toda, Najanad Vellalala.

Who owns the children you might ask, well so you know, in some of the cultures, the men co-parent the kids, but in other tribes like the Irigwe people, the house of the man the woman noticed she's pregnant owns the child. Howbeit, all the children belongs to the woman.

Believe It Or Not. Things are happening around the world. People and their culture. Are you a woman? Would you like to marry more than one man? Let see your thoughts in the comment section.

In the Gbagyi tribe found in Nigeria, a woman might not receive good funeral ceremony if she fails to leave firewood for her children. Women leave firewood as inheritance for their daughters. Every compound of the Gbagyi has large collection of firewood in their compound or around their house. Gbagyi women treasure firewood so much so that instead of taking a Gbagyi woman's firewood, take her food instead. The size of your firewood bank would determine how wealthy you are.
It is believed that they grow trees for firewood.

In the city of Varanasi in India, the Aghori Babas are known to eat the d£a'd. They hold the belief that the greatest fear of human beings is the fear of their own d£aths, and this fear is the barrier to spiritual enlightenment. Thus, by eating d£'ad bodies, they conquer it and one can only achieve spiritual enlightenment by doing so.

In Indonesia, the Dani live with their d£ad loved ones. The tribe preserves their d£ad ones by smoking them. It's smoked over time and stored in their house. Literally, their d£ad live with them in same house.
Part of reasons for this might have been caused by migration, their forefathers migrated to another region and thought one day they will return to their original land. So they do not want to bury their people in a foreign land.
