NOTICE!!! Read to the end!

Big changes are here for UK visa applicants! From September 2024 to January 2025, VFS Global is taking over visa services in 26 countries, replacing TLScontact. This update affects regions across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia, aiming to enhance efficiency and accessibility.

Applicants transitioning to VFS Global for UK visa services will receive detailed guidance emails from both VFS and TLScontact to support them through the change. These emails will outline any new steps and updates for the process, ensuring clarity.

Despite the shift in service providers, essential procedures like biometric data collection and visa application submissions will remain consistent. Applicants are advised to stay attentive to their emails and follow the instructions provided to ensure their visa application is handled smoothly during this transition.

Please note that the TLScontact visa application centre in Abuja will close on December 13th, 2024. Visa application processing for the UK will transfer to VFS Global. For information about the new VFS Global visa application centre, please visit the VFS Global website.

>> I have already booked an appointment at the TLS contact centre. What should I do?

If you have already booked an appointment with us, there is no change: your appointment will take place at our centre, as planned. However, if you don’t receive a decision on your application before our centre closes, your file and any associated documents will be securely transferred to VFS Global. They will contact you once your travel document is ready for collection or dispatch.

Take a little peek backwards.. here are a few notable events since Independence,

1. Establishment of Nigerian Airways (1958 - 2003)
Post-Independence Growth: Nigerian Airways, established in 1958, became the country's national carrier post-independence. In its heyday, it was a symbol of Nigeria's aviation ambition, connecting various domestic and international destinations.
Decline and Liquidation: Poor management and misgovernance led to the eventual decline of Nigerian Airways, which was liquidated in 2003.

2. Tourism Development Initiatives
National Tourism Policy (1990): The Nigerian government formulated the National Tourism Policy in 1990, aiming to develop tourism infrastructure and position Nigeria as a tourist destination.

Obudu Mountain Resort: This became one of Nigeria’s flagship tourist destinations, attracting both domestic and international tourists.

Carnival Calabar (2004): Launched by Governor Donald Duke, this became Africa’s biggest street party, putting Nigeria on the map for cultural tourism.

3. Introduction of Visa on Arrival (2019)
To encourage tourism and foreign investments, Nigeria introduced a Visa on Arrival policy for travelers from select countries, making it easier for business and leisure visitors to enter the country.

These events reflect the dynamic nature of Nigeria’s travel industry, shaped by political, economic, and technological factors over the decades.
