IPDI Petitions Buhari, calls for appointment of substantive NDDC board, Rejects Sole administrator

ASABA- The popular Ijaw group, the Ijaw People's Development Initiative, IPDI, has sent a strong worded petition to President Muhammadu Buhari, NSA, Chief of Staff, DSS, Ministry of Justice, Senate president, speaker House of Representatives seeking for the immediate appointment of substantive NDDC board as it rejected the appointment of sole administrator in the Commission.

The group national president, Comrade Ozobo Austin said in the group's petition dated 31st December, 2020 that it was unconstitutional to had appointed sole administrator in the NDDC board, nothing that such actions by the presidency does not had the backing of the laws establishing the Commission.

Ozobo lamented that Niger Delta Development Commission had been turned a fishing port or a cash-cow by few privileged individuals in president Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

The group added that since the establishment of the NDDC, Delta State had not produced chairman in the Commission.

IPDI added that NDDC board be overhauled as its purpose of creation had been defeated.

However, the group argued that Delta State had just ruled 3years single short- term as Managing Director in the Commission, while every other state were given enough privileges and time to enjoy MD and chairman positions in the Commission.

IPDI stated that available records of appointment of the Managing Directors and Chairmen in the Commission showed that it was the turn of Delta State to produced the next managing Director and Chairman of the Commission.

The statement read in part:
"We write formally to reject the obnoxious and illegal appointment of sole administrator of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC. It is our request that a substantive Managing Director and Chairman be appointed from Delta State to Mann the Commission without further delay"

"It may interest you to know that it is unconstitutional to have appoint a sole administrator in NDDC as it does not has any constitutional backing"

"Again, it is a fact the enabling laws establishing the Commission provides rotation or zoning of key offices such as the Managing Director and Chairman on the basis of production quantum"

"It is appalling that Niger Delta Development Commission has been turned to a fishing port or a cash-cow by few privileged individuals in president Muhammadu Buhari's administration, defeating its purpose of creation"

"However, following available records of appointment of the Managing Directors and Chairmen in the Commission over the years shows that it is the turn of Delta State to produce the next managing Director and Chairman of the Commission"

Meantime, taking a clue at the chart below will create more insights on our argument"

"NDDC BOARD CHAIRMEN

2001-2004 Chief Ugochuku --ABIA

2005-2009
Chief Edem -- Akwa ibom

2009-2011.
AVM koiyan - Bayelsa

2013- 2015

"However, the chart above proves that Delta State had just ruled 3years single short- term as Managing Director, while every other state were given enough privileges and time to enjoy MD and chairman positions in the Commission"

"Meanwhile, we hereby state unequivocally to reject the appointment of sole administrator in Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, as it is unconstitutional"

"It should be noted that we may decide to go into protest to shutdown the operations of NDDC headquarters if the substantive Managing Director and Chairman are not appointed in the next few possible times"

"It is also part of our warning that the appointment of the sole administrator should be reversed in immediate effect and a substantive Managing Director and Chairman be appointed without further delay to averted the impending protest that may disrupt governance in the country"

Youths in Nigeria should realize that there are lots of untapped and undiscovered areas in the Nigerian economy that requires creative and innovative minds that think outside the box to adequately ensure that Nigeria begins to be governed differently and the dividends of democracy guaranteed her citizens.

We are currently living in a knowledge-driven world of automation, artificial intelligence and big data analytics, we need to be problem solvers notwithstanding our differences and perceptions about our country.

Creativity is the way out for our youths and that is why we in FIRST RHEMA SOLUTIONS LIMITED focus more on Youths’ Creativity and Innovativeness

There is seemingly sustained unprecedented level of Unemployment in Nigeria, made worse by the massive redundancy arising from the COVID-19 Global Pandemic and holistic and urgent solutions are needed for the myriads of challenges confronting us. This is where the theme of this year’s International Youths Day becomes strategically appropriate namely
