The administration of Governor Seyi Makinde continually shows interest through different allied tourism contents to pride the State as one of the unique tourism destinations in Nigeria.

The Oyo State Government has decided to host this year’s celebration of 2021 world tourism day at the Ado-Awaye Suspended Lake. History as it that it is the only natural suspended lake in the world, as the one in Colorado, USA, which was acclaimed the first was man-made.

As a matter of fact, the community, Ado Awaye where the suspended lake is located had also, through the Oba of Ado Awaye, joined forces with other relevant bodies and the organised private sector, Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) with over 23 formidable associations including their own, Ado-Awaye Tourism Heritage Development Initiative (ATHDI) to make the event not only a grand one, but also open the area to investment opportunities.

This is in line with one of the many visions of His Governor Excellency Seyi Makinde during his inaugural speech where he promised to bring new initiatives to Oyo State
He said; “We will bring in new ideas and explore new initiatives. We will partner with local and foreign investors, some of whom are here with us today.

“I was drawn to politics because I saw the way the wealth meant for everyone was being siphoned by a few to enrich themselves while leaving the masses in desperate poverty and dehumanizing suffering, and our land in ruin. We have an opportunity to change this and we will.

“We have already started working on our campaign promises. In the area of investments, we promised that our administration will be pro-private investments, that we will make Oyo State the preferred investment destination in Nigeria.”

The administration of Seyi Makinde has been evidently working on their campaign promises of which includes the recently opening of the State-of-the-art remodeling of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, ongoing resuscitation of the farm settlements (Fasola, Akufo, Eruwa) into an Agribusiness Industrial Hub, renovation of health centers among others. All these development initiatives will reposition and boost the State’s economy to better the lives and livelihoods of Oyo State indigenes and residents.

Also the movement of the World Tourism Day celebration started last year where the fiesta was taken to Idere Hills, the celebration last year helped in giving the hiking tourism site a boost in terms of tourist traffic and opening of the town to domestic tourists and visitors.

This year, the Ado Awaye Suspended Lake will not only be a springboard for the State to showcase the uniqueness of the site but also boost Nigeria tourism image at positioning the suspended lake for immediate private sector driven investment.
