The scientific consensus is that Homo sapiens, the species to which all modern humans belong, evolved in Africa around 200,000 years ago.

This is based on genetic and fossil evidence, as well as archaeological findings. From there, early humans migrated out of Africa to populate the rest of the world, with some of the earliest evidence of human presence outside of Africa found in the Middle East dating back to around 120,000 years ago.

redoing some pre-colonial African hairstyles.

"Hair played a major cultural function in pre-colonial societies. they used hairstyle to communicate about their religion, wealth, age, social class, tribe, ethnic identity, marital status.

Hair also had a lot of spiritual connotation communicating about things like fertility, vitality (the more hair you have, the more fertile and strong, healthy, powerful you are supposed to be) and hair was for some a way of communicating with the divine (the longer the hair, the more receptive you are to receiving messages from the spiritual entity).

In some societies only your relatives could style your hair because, due to the strong spiritual connotation of hair, hair in the enemy's hand could become an ingredient in producing a dangerous "bewitchment" to reach the owner.

Africans had a wide variety of hairstyles. It was not just limited to braids, pigtails and braided styles but sculptures. styles also included embellishments like pearls, gold, or cowries." -

Ethiopia is known as the "cradle of humanity" due to the significant number of archaeological and paleontological discoveries that have been made there.

One of the most famous of these discoveries is Lucy, a nearly complete fossilized skeleton of an early human ancestor, known as Australopithecus afarensis, who lived about 3.2 million years ago. Ever read about the most feared women in history?

The Dahomey Amazons are the only documented female army in modern history. A West African empire that ruled from 1625 to 1894 was known as the Kingdom of Dahomey, and the Dahomey Amazons led its army.

Foreign observers called them the Dahomey Amazons while they called themselves N'Nonmiton, which means "our mothers." Described as untouchable, and sworn in as virgins, swift decapitation was their trademark.

It was said that only 17 out of 434 Amazons are claimed to have survived one of the last confrontations against the French in 1892 before the kingdom became a French colony.

Several people have been killed in violent clashes in Ethiopia’s second-biggest state, Amhara region.

Protests broke out when Ethiopia’s federal government announced a plan to dissolve Amhara's regional special forces.

Locals fear the move could leave the region undefended against attacks.

The reforms are among stipulations of a peace deal between the federal government and former rebels from the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) signed last November to end the conflict.

13/04/2023

The Bantu migration is considered one of the largest human migrations in history, with an estimated 100 million Bantu-speaking people living in sub-Saharan Africa today.

The migration began around 3,000 years ago in West Africa and spread eastward and southward over several centuries, reaching as far as South Africa by around 500 CE.

The Bantu people were skilled farmers and ironworkers, and their migration was driven in part by a need for more fertile land and resources.

The spread of the Bantu languages had a significant impact on the cultural, linguistic, and genetic diversity of sub-Saharan Africa, and played a major role in shaping the continent's history and identity.

The phone, called OpenG, for “Open Generation”, seeks to break the barriers of illiteracy, especially among the elderly.

The smartphone has a voice-activated assistant, KONE, equipped with artificial intelligence, allowing users to perform similar tasks as Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri.

Capo-Chichi now has plans to extend the number of languages to meet the demand of other communities whose languages still need to be integrated into the device.

Capo-Chichi was inspired to create the phone so that illiterates, like his parents, could effectively use smartphones.

"In Africa, the problem we have is that reading and writing are not accessible to everyone. People can use their smartphones much more easily by simply speaking to them," He said.

Capo-chichi won the award on the 3rd of April, 2023. This award recognizes individuals for outstanding contributions in promoting literacy.

The phone is currently available for purchase in Ivory Coast and competes against foreign brands for market share.
