The role of Ogedengbe in the Kiriji war “At a point Ekiti sent for Ogedengbe, a war contractor or mercenary, to assist in the Kiriji war. When he came Fabunmi surrendered to him at Imesi Ile. There is a spot within the hills where Ogedegbe’s royal stool can be seen today. He used to sit on the stool and give orders.

Adekanla states “Ogedengbe’s compound was used as the meeting place for war lords, while the compounds foreground was used for the general assembly. Thus Ogedengbe’s compound became a political centre for the town. Important chiefs lived in large areas surrounded by their war boys.”
Ogedengbe also had a daily ritual which seems to have helped him in the course of the war. Adekanla writes “Salegan, Ogedengbe’s wife had a daily ritual, which she performed for her husband before he went to battle… The ritual guaranteed his safe return from battle at the end of the day.” One day, a powerful Egungun arrived and prepared a charm which saw to the demise death of Latosa, and brought the war to an end. The British colonial government settled the war. All the Obas from Ibadan and the Ijesa nation,and from all the towns involved in the war, came and appended their signatures to the treaty ending the war. The treaty was signed, put in a pot, and buried under a tree.’

Some people and indeed all over the world, including well travelled, often confuse England, United Kingdom and Great Britain.

England is a country just like Ghana and its capital is London just like Accra is the capital of Ghana.

Great Britain is a collection of 3 countries which came together as one country and has its capital as London. Those 3 countries are:

1. England,
2. Scotland
3. Wales.

When you include Northern Ireland to these 3 countries, they become United Kingdom (Union of four nations)

1. England,
2. Scotland,
3. Wales, and
4. Northern Ireland.

That is why it is referred to as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Oyotunji African Village is a village located near Sheldon, Beaufort County, South Carolina that was founded by Oba Efuntola Oseijeman Adelabu Adefunmi I in 1970. Oyotunji village is named after the Oyo empire, a pre-colonial Yoruba kingdom lasting from the 1300s until the early 1800s in what is now southwestern Nigeria. The name literally means “O̩yo̩ returns” or “O̩yo̩ rises again” or “O̩yo̩ resurrects” referring to the African Yoruba kingdom of Oyo, now rising in a new form near the South Carolina seashore.
Oyotunji village covers 27 acres (11 ha) and has a Yoruba temple which was moved from Harlem, New York to its present location in 1960. It was originally intended to be located in Savannah, Georgia, but was eventually settled into its current position after disputes with neighbors in Sheldon proper, over drumming and tourists.

Gbenga Adeboye(Funwontan) : The first internationally successful Nigerian comedian.
Everything huge Nigerian comedy stars like Basketmouth, Bovi, and Alibaba do with standup or film today was pioneered by Gbenga Adeboye. The same goes for today’s viral social media comics like Maraji, Crazeclown and Twyse – the characters that inform their comedy and the skit format was pioneered by Gbenga Adeboye.
He was an MC, radio host, actor, producer, poet, musician and multi-disciplinary entertainer who dominated the Nigerian comedy space in the mid to late 90s before his passing in 2003.
Born Elijah Oluwagbemiga Adeboye in Ode Omu, Gbongan LGA, Osun State, Gbenga Adeboye started out hosting a radio show on Radio Lagos called ‘Funwontan’. The show was mostly freestyle sessions with Gbenga’s improvised characters and his blend of Yoruba dialects interwoven with ewi. The show soon took off and became very popular leading to demand for Gbenga’s content.
The name of the show even became one of his aliases. The characters, Yoruba dialects and incantations remained throughout his career.
BUSINESSMAN
Soon after he began to produce his content independently and setup his own production company called Gbenga Adeboye Productions through which he released his comedy albums, videos and films. It is unlikely that the publishing deals behind these works are properly structured but Gbenga Adeboye definitely made a lot of money from his business ventures across entertainment in his lifetime.
VERSATILITY
Though most of Gbenga Adeboye’s content revolved around humor, he tapped other aspects of entertainment to push his art. He released music regularly, made short films and comedy albums. He made well-told skits, created numerous characters that became monikers and embraced it all in his personal life. He often referred to himself with the religious titles “Alhaji Pastor Oluwo” and would often quote bible verses, quranic verses and incantations in succession.

About Ikirun in Osun State

Ikirun is a town that derived its name from the first ruler of the town called Akinorun. There was a hunter named Basetan. Basetan was uthe premier settler and the founder of the present day Ikirun. As stated earlier, Basetan was a hunter. And in his hunting expedition, he came across nearby habitation in “Igbo Irele”, a community headed by a man called Akinorun.

Basetan urged Akinorun to join him in present day Ikirun,and he agreed with Basetan. And since then Basetan left the governing of the settlement in the wardship of his new friend Akinorun, with the understanding that he would stand as the subordinate whenever he is around. With this arrangement,the rulership was progressively released to Akinorun and his descendants with Basetan as the Eesa, i.e., the second in command and till this day,”the Eesa” always come from the lineage of Basetan.

In acknowledgment of this arrangement, whenever a new Akinrun is mount on the throne, he is required to spend sometime in the Eesa’s palace as the Eesa’s guest (his original proprietor) before moving into his own palace. In due to this,it is captured In the oriki of the Basetan descendants as “omo arile gba ofe kunrin, which literarily means “he who has enough capacity in his compound to harbor male guests)..
