Benue yams are renowned in Nigeria as some of the best species of the staple food. We were privileged to come across this market in Benue state, just at about its boundary with Taraba state.

Its about food!

Here are some of the traditional Nigerian meals we had on our stops during our tours. Most popular is the jollof rice which many Nigerians eat at least once a week 🥳

Many of the pictured foods can be found across the countries of west Africa- there are okro soup, smoked fish, pounded yam, roasted plantains and yams.

We stopped while on a tour of Lagos to get is some street food popularly known as Bole. This bundle is made up of roasted plantains, yams, and fish, all drenched in spicy palm oil and tomato sauce.

It's one of the better delicacies you will find in southern Nigeria, especially the south east.

Threaded Hairstyles in Nigeria. This is not a post on hair removal, which is also called threading. It is a celebration of hairstyles that women carried for centuries in Nigeria and West Africa. This style is achieved by wrapping sectioned hair using special threads (that do not catch in hair - see last slides). Various styles can be achieved by sectioning hair differently, allowing varying degrees of gaps along the length of threaded hair, and folding or twisting each completed section singly or into a bunch. In addition to beautification, some benefits of threading include hair protection and strengthening, moisture and length retention, and less room for hair manipulation that could lead to splitting and breaking. It was very popular in Nigeria up until the late nineties when weaves came mainstream. However, with the re-entry of afro natural hair movement into black culture, this hairstyle and technique is becoming a trend once again. I'm getting mine done next week at @tasalahq.
