The village of San Juan de Oriente part of the Pueblos Blancos, was also known as “San Juan de los Platos” because its first pre-Hispanic inhabitants were dedicated to the skillful production of clay dishes and other clay artifacts.

Known for its traditional pottery, the artisans fine work has transcended Nicaraguan borders and nowadays it is not a surprise to come across their ceramics in shops in America and Europe.

The Apoyo Lagoon is a great off the beaten path place, perfect for connecting with nature and a refreshing swim.
