The Stone Twins is a creative communications agency founded by twin brothers Declan & Garech Stone, in the last year of the 20th Century. The Stone Twins’ combination of strategy, creativity and wit delivers engaging concepts, deep brand intelligence and memorable brand experiences. The Stone Twins are the creative agency behind A’DAM Toren, the newly-opened multifunctional tower in Amsterdam. Not
only did The Stone Twins devise the name (an abbreviation for ‘Amsterdam’ or ‘Amsterdam Dance and Music’), brand strategy and communications for A’DAM - and it’s sub-brands Moon, Madam & A’DAM&Co - but they also led the interior design teams in their pursuit of a holistic brand identity. Passionate and assertive about design, The Stone Twins are authors of ‘LOGO R.I.P.’ (a critically acclaimed book that commemorates 50 defunct logos) and regularly contribute articles to various design journals, such as Eye, DesignWeek, Amsterdam Ad Blog and Communicatie. The Stone Twins were Head of the ‘Man and Communication’ department at Design Academy Eindhoven from 2008 until 2013. They currently provide lectures and workshops on visual communication at several international design schools. In addition, The Stone Twins have been speakers at numerous creativity conferences, such as OFFSET and Integrated Antwerp. Alongside running their eponymous studio, The Stone Twins are also available as a freelance creative team. In recent years, they have worked with 180 Amsterdam, Indie and Wieden+Kennedy. The work of The Stone Twins has won awards at D&AD, Dutch Design Awards, ADCN, European Design Awards and FWA; and forms part of the permanent collections of the Cooper-Hewitt New York, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and their parents’ living room.

We created the name and brand identity for the winning proposal by the internationally acclaimed Heatherwick Studio & Nudus, in an architectural competition hosted by the Municipality of Utrecht, to envision a new center for culture, work, and leisure on Jaarbeursplein, Utrecht.
The name ‘Oopen’ is inspired by the building’s distinctive rounded forms, which enable open access from all sides. The interconnected spaces promote exploration, foster chance encounters, and facilitate healthy urban living. Oopen also embodies values of community, inclusivity, and diversity.

Take, for instance, our website design: where classic typography and imagery, complemented by sparkling copywriting, converge with state-of-the-art UI/UX elements, such as a 3D bottle that animates as you scroll and interactive easter eggs.

One year on, it’s great to see the ‘G&S&’ name firmly established in the Dutch real estate sector.
The additional ampersand symbolises how G&S& thrives off collaboration, such as partnerships with city councils, architects and tenants. This idea is also expressed through the flowing calligraphic letters of the logo and the slogan “Collaborate for better”.

Inspired by the iconic business card scene from American Psycho, our cards are a satirical comment on the creative industry’s obsession with corporate titles, award shows and social media ‘achievements’.
Ironically, we won a D&AD Pencil in 2015 for these cards – and, nine years on, it’s time to update some of the details :)

Yes! We’re Oopen.
We’re proud to be part of the team that won the competition to envision a new centre for culture, work and leisure on Utrecht’s Jaarbeursplein. Designed by Heatherwick Studio and Barcode Architects, the building will be developed by Edge, a leader in sustainable real estate development.
We created the brand name ‘Oopen’ after being inspired by the building’s rounded forms which allow for open access – and the interconnected spaces which promote chance encounters between a broad programme of activities, such as cultural events, startup offices, cafés, urban sports and a rooftop restaurant.
We’re Oopen in 2028…

Conceptually, the ‘S-logo’ contains two arrows that symbolise the two sides of the Songtradr platform, such as artists connecting with brands, or the marriage of creativity and data.
We’re looking forward to turning the brand up to eleven in the next few months. Stay tuned!
