Leaving from Amsterdam towards Aalsmeer
🛟⚓ Another sunny day out ⚓🛟
On our way to Aalsmeer where our bikes will have their winter quarters. Just one of the things that need being done at the end of the touring season. But on a day like this also this is enjoyable.

Heading off to our final cycling day of this marvellous tour. Another great day in the making, and we couldn't be more enthusiastic about making the final distance from Hoorn towards Amsterdam.
Leaving Stavoren for Enkhuizen

The Sun truly is our friend on this journey. For our IJsselmeer crossing from Stavoren to Enkhuizen he rose up just in time. What a beautiful morning!

The very North of Friesland boasts with scenic little roads, picturesque villages, built on "Terps", small mounds where in the old days the people would try to keep the villages from being flooded and again impressive historical sights. One of the highlights of the day surely was the Planetarium in Franeker, another of the 11 cities of Friesland. Here Eise Easinga who was running a wool dyer's shop, spent his free time building a planetarium in his living room - to scale, and still operating accurately. But we were also impressed by the friendliness and hospitality of the people we met - like the couple on a campground who made us coffee, because the tea room was closed for the day. And then there was Tessa who gave us a guided tour to the "Vrouwen Huys" at Poptaslot in Marsum where the former castle owner built living quarters around a beautiful courtyard and garden for single women and he made sure through his testament that the house is operating to this date.
Nico learning Frysian
🛟🚴⚓ Sea to Sea Tour ⚓🚴🛟
When you're travelling through Friesland you may want to learn some Frysk, the language which is kept alive to date. Luckily we met a true Friesian gentleman who taught our guide Nico a poem in the old language.
Cycling along a dyke
⚓🛟🚴🚴♀️🚴 Pilgrim Tour Maastricht - Amsterdam 🚴♂️🚴♀️🚴🛟⚓
Did you know that about one third of the Netherlands is below sea level? So it's no surprise that you find dikes all over the country, not only at the coast but also along the many rivers and canals. Cycling along these Dutch dykes is always a pleasure, even more so when there are trees on a hot summer's day.

Part of the fun of a Bike & Barge Tour with the Elodie is that you're always free to opt for time onboard instead of going on a ride. Or the Elodie takes the guests along for a part of the distance. And like cycling this is a really relaxing way of travelling. But see for yourself.

It's always nice to meet your floating hotel along the way when you're cycling with the group and suddenly you see the Elodie sailing next to you - your home away from home.
