The Oosterschelde might be over a century old, but it's fitted very comfortably with all modern conveniences. After your watch you can relax together with other trainees in the spacious and pleasantly decorated saloon, which hosts reading tables, a sitting area and even a piano! Even in the worst weather, the floor heating and a wood-burning stove guarantee a cosy atmosphere.

„In the morning we set almost all the sails for the first time and we departed to the starting point of the Race.

To set the sails we have to climb the masts to untie them first. Climbing the mast is an essential part of sailing a Tall Ship. I'm not (yet) a fan of it, but once you get up there, together with other trainees who are extremely supportive, it is an experience you won't ever forget. And that's how we arrived here, on an endless sea somewhere along the west coast of France, and how we continue our journey to Lisbon.”

"Yesterday we shifted our watch hours for the first time. The switch marked the completion of one third of the trip. The wind slowed down, so it was the first time in a couple days that we could make coffee, stand up straight, and shower.

We've been heeling a lot the past two days, but thankfully we've been going about 10 knots most of the time, thanks to the wind and the work of the crew and trainees."

"After having breakfast and cleaning the boat, we did a beach clean-up on Kornö. It was quite scary to see how much trash we found, but at the same time it was a great experience. It was peaceful to walk on the beach as the sun was shining and with the sound of the sea. We started sailing after lunch. We made a really nice departure with the schooner and the forestay sail."
