Are you familiar with cycle junctions (or in Dutch: fietsknooppunten)? 📍

It's a popular cycling system used in the Netherlands, Belgium, and other parts of Europe. This system consists of a network of numbered junctions or nodes (knooppunten) that are connected by by well-signposted routes.

How it works:

▪️ Each junction or node is assigned a unique number.
▪️ Between each junction, there are signposted routes that guide you from one node to the next.
▪️ Signs typically display the numbers of the next few nodes and directional arrows, making navigation straightforward.
▪️ You can plan your journey by selecting a series of numbers that correspond to the nodes they want to pass through. You can use mobile apps to plan your trip in advance.

This system is easy to follow, so let's enjoy a stress-free bike ride! 🙌

Are you planning to go on a cycling holiday in the Netherlands? Here are some of the most important traffic rules for you as a cyclist:

➡️ Like all traffic, you have to keep to the right side of the road.

🚲 You must always ride on the bicycle path if one is available. If there is no bicycle path, you may ride on the roadway but must keep to the right as much as possible.

🚦 Of course you have to stop for red lights and follow other traffic signs. However, there is one exception. At traffic lights with the sign ‘Rechtsaf voor fietsers vrij’, cyclists who are turning right don’t have to wait for the light to turn green.

🌙 At night, your bike must have front and rear lights that are clearly visible. Reflectors on the wheels and pedals are also mandatory.

🤚 Cyclists must always use hand signals to indicate their intentions, such as signaling with their arm to turn.

📵 The use of a mobile phone while cycling is prohibited. You’re allowed to listen to music while you’re cycling, but research has shown that you’re more likely to have an accident.

👶 Children under 8 years old must be transported in an approved bicycle seat. And children under 12 years old must wear a bicycle helmet.

During the second day of our 'Bruges - Amsterdam' tour you will have the day at your free disposal in Ghent. This city is known for its rich past, the many well-preserved guild’s and patricians’ houses as well as old warehouses, cathedrals and castles.

But Ghent is much more than just a museum town. Say hello to our 17-person barge: Clair de Lune! 🌙 Fun fact: this ship is nearly 100 years old! A short timeline:

1936 👉🏻 The ship was built as a freighter in Belgium.

1982 👉🏻 Then the ship was rebuilt into a passenger ship, initially named 'Steile Bank' and 'Summerjazz'.

2014 👉🏻 Since May 2014, the ship has been named 'Clair de Lune,' which means moonlight.

2020 👉🏻 Clair de Lune was fully renovated in 2020. Nowadays, Clair de Lune exclusively sails for Cycletours, mainly in France.
