Now open: the exhibition 'Miró in the Rijksmuseum gardens'.

Here's a picture of grandson Joan Punyet Miró. The four-metre-high Oiseau lunaire is making its first public appearance. Since it was cast in bronze in the 1980s, it had never left the warehouse of its commissioning party in New York. Punyet Miró was very touched to see the sculpture for the first time in his life.

Deze week maakten we de grootste oblique luchtfoto ooit van de Amsterdamse Grachtengordel. De opname is uit de hand geschoten vanaf 1km hoogte en samengesteld uit 16 PhaseOne 30mp bestanden, de foto zal geprint worden op een formaat van 10x7meter en komt te hangen op en prominente plek waar de opname door miljoenen mensen gezien zal worden.

Did you know......

that Amsterdam and one third of The Netherlands is actually below sea level, while another one third is very close to the official zero-measuring (NAP level).

- Downtown Amsterdam lies some 2 metres (6,5 ft) above sea level
- Schiphol is the world’s lowest-lying airport. In fact, the NS station next to Schiphol lies 10 metres (32 feet) below sea level
- Most windmills were simply wind-driven pumps. Nowadays, they been replaced by electric pumping stations but still almost 1.000 (out of the estimated 10.000 in the 17th century) remain
- There are some 10.000 houseboats in the Netherlands and over 2.400 in Amsterdam alone, even when only a third of these are on the picturesque city centre canals. Note that one of them sits in precisely the same location (Amsterdam) since 1888!

On 4 May, Amsterdam joins the rest of the Netherlands in commemorating the civilians and members of the armed forces who have died in war and peacekeeping missions since the outbreak of World War II.

At 8pm everyone observes a two-minute silence.
