Stumbled upon this movie, set in Groningen, called "Stranger in Town". I guess it's from the 1970s, it's 48mins long and has nice old footage of familiar places.

I haven't seen it yet, and plan to view it on Monday September 2nd at 20:30.

I'm so proud of the people who keep the🍉RuG encampment🍉 going, which has been in place for 11 days now! The encampment is a space where a lot of interesting things are happening: horizontal democracy, speeches, teach-ins by RuG lecturers, a book launch, live music, a dabke workshop, people are bringing food, books and tents.

Activistisch archiefmateriaal gezocht

De Noordelijke archieven en Internationaal Filmfestival Assen werken samen aan een nieuw project: het in kaart brengen van activisme in het Noorden! Hierbij ligt de focus op de rol/acties van vrouwen en LHBTI-ers binnen actiebewegingen in de drie Noordelijke provincies.

Wij zijn in het bijzonder geïnteresseerd in beelden van feministische en LHBTI-bewegingen, maar niet uitsluitend: ook materiaal van andere bewegingen is zeer welkom, zoals video’s van demonstraties of acties binnen de milieu-, kraak-, anti-oorlogs- of anti-racismebeweging. Heb jij nog oud archiefmateriaal liggen (film, foto of audio) waarop actievoering is vastgelegd? Bijvoorbeeld van familieleden/vrienden die betrokken waren bij de tweede feministische golf in Groningen, Drenthe of Friesland? Of heb jij een gouden tip voor ons? Graag komen wij in contact!

Hi there! It's been quite a while since I posted anything. This is not because nothing's happening in Groningen, or with Alternative Groningen Tour. In the last months
- I've done several booked group tours about music history, squatters' history and Groningen's women's movement.
- I did two talks on squatting history in the Oude Jeugdsjoel squat
- I was on the Vera Weekly talk show to talk about the tours
aaaaaaaannnnddd... something that I'm really excited about:

I was asked to collaborate with Stichting Kladmuur for a big event about Groningen's history of graffiti. This is an awesome project in which I get to combine histories I already knew something about (like punk and activist scenes) with learning new stuff about subcultures like football supporters and the early hip hop scene. Talking with people about Groningen's graffiti has already been very stimulating so far, and I'll be interviewing some big names from the early graffiti days to write down these microhistories, for which I'm very excited!

All this is leading up to a big event in October (the Month of Groninger History) during which Stichting Kladmuur will be handing over their graffiti archive to the Groninger Archieven. Besides my tours, there will be talks, a documentary, an exhibition and other cool stuff around the theme of Groningen's graffiti.

Today: opening of sole exhibition by David Sciarone @ Y2 Gallery

✨AGENDATIP✨

Vandaag om 16.00 uur opent de solotentoonstelling van David Sciarone (Aerious) in Y2. Voor deze expositie zal Sciarone nieuwe tijdelijke muurschilderingen maken, grafisch werk (prints) vertonen en verkopen en zal er ook klein 3D-werk te zien zijn.

Daarnaast kun je in de Chapuzza Pop-Up Shop duurzame kleding in kleine oplage van Sciarones streetwear-collectief Chapuzza scoren. Alle nieuwe kleding is met de hand gezeefdrukt in de eigen Chapuzza Studio in Groningen.

Tijdens de opening is de bar geopend en draait Sciarione samen met vrienden dj-sets - mis het niet!

Squatting continues! The old youth synagogue has been squatted to protect it and to start a cultural social center. This is a building that carries historical importance, which is now threatened by greed and capitalism. Hopefully the squatters can turn this building back into a center for social and cultural youth gatherings. Did you know anarchist bookshop Boekhandel Rosa used to be situated in this building?

De jeugdsynagoge aan de Folkingedwarsstraat in Groningen is gekraakt. Volgens de krakers vanwege een nobel doel: het voorkomen van sloop en de publieke functie van het pand als sociaal centrum en cultuurhistorisch erfgoed te behouden. Daarnaast vragen ze aandacht voor de woonnood.

A sweet little monument for a popular neighborhood cat to be taken away by municipality that really has nothing more important to do...

De koningin van het pleintje op de kruising Helper Westsingel-Boutenspad is niet meer. We hebben het natuurlijk over Spriet. Het zwartje katje was geliefd bij velen, maar overleed een tijdje geleden. Buurtbewoners plaatsten een monument voor het beestje, maar nu wil de gemeente dat weghalen.
