Feadship Heritage Fleet

Feadship Heritage Fleet The Feadship Heritage Fleet is an association for the owners of registered Feadships that are more than thirty years old.

It has three key objectives:
- To unite the owners of classic Feadship yachts
- To promote the continuance of the Feadship yachting heritage
- To organise events for members and offer them services related to their yachts. There are an incredible number of Feadships still sailing that were launched more than three decades ago. As well as being a testimony to Feadship standards of construction

, many of these yachts have been scrupulously maintained by their owners. They are very proud of the heritage of their yacht and still enjoy cruising the world in the style and comfort which is so very unique to the Feadship brand. The inaugural meeting of the association took place on 16 April 2013 in the historic De Roode Leeuw restaurant in Amsterdam, which was also the location of the very first Feadship meeting in late 1949. Now the activities of the Feadship Heritage Fleet continue to make history as we bring together the classics in a unique way.

History in the making ⚓

The legendary designer Henri de Voogt set up his own company in 1913, and won races himself in his early – self-built – boats. Once the focus shifted exclusively to naval architecture, De Voogt began cooperating with the De Vries and Van Lent yards.

The partnership flourished after the creation of Feadship, and today this technical office for naval architecture and engineering is the creative center of the organization. As well as designing yachts in the classic Feadship tradition, De Voogt is increasingly asked to develop revolutionary new concepts. Thanks to generations of resourceful interaction between De Voogt and the Feadship yards, the final results are always spectacular.

The rich, multi-generational history of Feadship shapes everything we do today as a global leader in high-tech superyacht building. While our contemporary Feadships are literal and figurative giants of the global fleet, we remain dedicated to preserving our heritage whenever possible.A prime example is the radical rebuild of the 12-metre Mira at our Makkum yard. This project is revitalizing one of the very first yachts ever constructed under the Feadship name. Not only does it evoke fond memories of our early days, but the circular approach we're applying to this rebuild also underscores our commitment to future-compatible practices.Discover the fascinating journey of Mira’s transformation and explore more about our legacy and innovation by watching our incredible series. Join us in celebrating the past while creating a brighter future!

Throwback to 1953, when the stunning motor yacht Capri made waves at her debut at the New York Boat Show, where she was not only the largest yacht on display but also crowned Queen of the Show. 👑Here’s to 75 years of Feadship’s excellence and innovation!

History in the making! 💎

This years marks 75 years since the formation of Feadship. While the three main participants in the "First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders" all have histories dating back decades further, the official establishment of what is today the world's leading superyacht brand took place in a café in Amsterdam in 1949.

Pictured is the New York boat show in January 1953, where various Feadship ambassadors were celebrating the success of the Dutch brand in the United States.

Stay tuned as over the course of this year we will share a snapshot of highlights of the first seven and a half decades of Feadship using rare and, in some cases, never previously published images to illustrate our ongoing quest for pure custom creation.

In 1978, Feadship delivered a yacht to E Clayton Gengras, a self-made millionaire who built his fortune through car sales, starting with the Stutz Bearcat before World War II. The Feadship, which was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects, was named Claybeth in honor of Gengras' daughters and was primarily used for family purposes and entertaining friends in Connecticut.

Although smoking was permitted on board, strict rules were in place, as evidenced by the standing orders found by one of Calypso's latest captains from that time period. The orders prohibited smoking in the main saloon and bunkrooms after 6 pm. This was a time when smoking was allowed on airlines.

Claybeth underwent a complete renovation in 2016, during which the interior was refreshed. Despite having new custom teakwork, furniture, systems, and paint, the yacht, now known as Calypso, still exudes the classic Feadship style from 1978.

In this special day of his 96th birthday we want to pay homage to a man who played such a prominent role in the superyacht world for many decades. Frits de Voogt is one of the humblest and kindest men you could ever meet.

The First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders was established not long after the Second World War by a group of Dutch yards seeking to explore the potential of the American market for their high-quality steel yachts. There were originally six yards in the venture, although the new group relatively quickly came to revolve around the De Vries and Van Lent yards (as is still the case today). Frits’s father Henri de Voogt provided naval architecture and design expertise to the new group and served as an intermediary between the yards. This was a role that was vital to ensuring that the competitive edge of the yards did not prevent them working closely together.

We look back at our last meeting with Mr. de Voogt during our 10th anniversary Rendezvous in Haarlem.

Day 2: the Fleet arrived in the city of Amsterdam. Beautiful aereal shots show how the group stayed together along canals, locks and other waterways before reaching destination: Amsterdam Marina. A very cozy dinner and party closed the day and now we are ready for part 3 of the programme!

It was the young designer Frits de Voogt who flew to New York to meet Henry Ford II. Negotiations were held in a 5th Avenue apartment overlooking Central Park, and the 32.90m (107'1') Santa Maria was ordered within a fortnight, at that time the most expensive Feadship ever built.

Nenemoosha was built for the proprietor of a toy manufacturing company in London. She has remained on the River Thames since and is now with her fourth owner.
The name Nenemoosha comes from the vocabulary of Longfellow‘s “The Song of Hiawatha” and means sweetheart.

Exactly 10 years ago the Feadship Heritage Fleet became a fact! We look back at the pictures of the formal inception at the historical Cafe de Leeuw in Amsterdam: the same place where many years back the several shipyards representatives met to give birth to the First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders. Join us in this day of celebrations!

Upon taking delivery of the 35.42m Jardell in August 1970, her delighted owner immediately decided to have a larger yacht built. Built under the name Jardell II, she was immediately renamed Big R at her delivery in September 1973. This new 45.00m yacht was equipped with the very latest technology, including Vosper stabilizer fins, a bow thruster, and - a first for Feadship - a satellite navigation system.
