In the Japanese language Hokori stands for dust, the exact same word is used for pride. It both encapsulates the process of making hollow wooden surfboards. Knowing we are mere dust in the wind but feeling a sense of pride and achievement in doing what we love. In constant search of the balance between manmade shapes and organic materials, every board is a journey towards an unique and functional

end product. The process is what we love, taking time, focusing on every step and, like surfing, work with what nature offers. The joy of surfing from the age of twelve and the enriching experience of building a wooden house with my father and brother in the south of France have come together in making hollow wooden surfboards. From making the first board in France it has continued to building my workshop to further develop skills and trying new designs and techniques. At Hokori you can have a custom wooden board build to your specifications, shaped and crafted with passion, dedication, pride and dust.

Yesterday early morning Keilerwerf1 completely burnt to the ground in just a couple of hours.

Being a creative hub, which was housing over 40 artists, furniture makers, designers and musicians the fire demolished nine years of hard work, community and passion over profit businesses.

Due to the temporary nature of the building, insurance was difficult to arrange. A risk we all took because of the greatness of the place and the lack of suitable alternatives.

The Keilewerf was a special place that nurtured new ideas and idealistic creative solutions into existence. A type of creative space that is unfortunately hard to come by.

As of now Rotterdam has one less.

For me personally the flames took away the place where I first started my company Hokori wooden surfboards and later developed and created furniture and interior pieces. My workplace housed al my tools, machinery, materials, prototypes and personal belongings. On a less practical level the Keilewerf was my second home.

As a maker all the gathered tools, machinery and materials collected over the years are essential when creating.
With all this gone our hands are tied behind our backs.

Since most of us depend on our work at the Keilewerf for our livelihood we ask for your support.
The will to rise from the ashes is great, unfortunately without financial support most of us won’t be able too.

Therefore the Keilewerf started a crowd funding. Every bit helps.

If you want to support me and my company in particular, my girlfriend started this fund me to get me back on track again.

Already the support we received is heartwarming and strengthens our will to rebuild.
