Went out to have a cast with my fly rod yesterday in atrocious conditions and was rewarded with this fantastic. The Ohau and Tekapo Canals are definitely a fantastic sports fishery where if done correctly fish can be safely returned to the water. This nice Jack of over 20lb was released to fight another day.

Hi team,

Winter is finally here and with it there should be some good flows throughout the canal system. Knowing how to read the water and how best to fish it is critical if you're going to be successful or not. Selecting the correct technique and knowing how and where to use them be it roll eggs or softbaiting is very important.

I was having a conversation with another angler a few weeks back and it went like this "Just because you put on a softbait doesn't mean that you're softbaiting and just because you put on an egg doesn't doesn't mean that you're egg rolling. You can have it 95% correct but it's the final 5% that makes it all work".

Remember these fish are smart but once you figure out the correct techniques to catch them you will be away laughing. I will teach you the techniques that will make it all happen.

SALMON FEVER

While the takes from salmon in the early stages of an escape are hard to miss the takes later on are definitely harder to detect. This nice 14lb Salmon was one of those fish and if contact had not been kept with the line it the result could have been less favorable. After a few photos the nice top conditioned silver fish was safely released.

Fish of a lifetime.

Kevin had traveled over from the UK to visit family and hopefully do some fishing with his son along the way. On previous fishing trips to the canals they had been unsuccessful so the decision was made that they needed someone to show them how to do it properly. After learning how to roll eggs the right way and getting a few smaller fish on the bank this monster decided it wanted to crash the party. At 23.1lb and in absolutely top condition it will be one fish that will never be forgotten about.
