About us

The RUW foundation is short for the RUral Wageningen foundation and focusses among others on rural themes. RUW aims to give students the chance to broaden or deepen their knowledge of themes that are being discussed at the WUR. Also RUW aims to provide knowledge and involve students in societal issues relevant to the WUR’s themes. The themes include:
◾Agriculture
◾Food production and con

sumption
◾Green space
◾Waste management
◾Water
◾Urban-rural relations
◾Resource management
◾Energy
◾And more…

By shedding light on a topic from different perspectives we create a platform for exchange and discussion between students and other parties of different studies, backgrounds and disciplines. The activities of RUW can both complement and contradict views that are part of the Wageningen University education. Students therefore get the opportunity to form a critical opinion on topics of their interest. By attending our activities students build their network by getting in touch with innovative companies and projects, as well as researchers, policy makers, artists and governmental organisations. In a practical, educational and fun manner RUW builds bridges between the science of Wageningen University and the practice. RUW puts the emphasize on information about solutions and aims to inspire students and to give them a sense of what they can achieve with their studies. To achieve these aims RUW organises lectures, workshops, debates and excursions. Also RUW can be more directly involved with the education of the WUR by for example assisting in ACT projects. The RUW foundation is funded mainly by Wageningen University. Are you interested in organising activities together with the RUW team? As a student, you can turn your own ideas into activities or assist us with the organisation of upcoming activities. Go to www.stichitngruw.nl to get informed about the possibilities.

Human, nature and food is a series of events that aims at exploring ways in which we can put scientific knowledge into practice!

During three sessions, we will get to know different projects related to food. We will put our knowledge into practice and discover the struggles that arise when going into the field. We will do so together, by reading, exchanging knowledge and by discussing with people who are working on these projects.

17th of May: Exploring Farming Practices together with Wageningen Student Farm

25th of May: Entrepreneurship in the Agri-food Domain together with StartHub

7th & 14th of June: Foodscaping in the surroundings together with Prof. Wiskerke. *limited spots available*

IT'S OUT!

Go to our website to check out the resulting report after the series of events "The Impact of Collaboration", which gathers opinions from the WUR community about the collaboration between WUR and the private sector, identifying potential risks, benefits, advice and recommendations.

The report was presented to the Executive Board of Wageningen University & Research in September. What do you think they said about it?

Big thanks to OtherWise Wageningen for the collaboration in the process and elaboration of the report.

Hello!

During this year RUW Foundation and Otherwise have conducted a series of events about the Impact of Collaboration between WUR and the private sector. We are currently wiritng a report with the opinions we have been hearing during these events, so we can present it to the public and to the executive board of WUR after the summer.

We want to reach a broader spectrum of the WUR community so that we can grasp major opinions on the collaboration between WUR and the private sector. That is why we ask you to fill up this questionaire so we can gather more and more opinions.

Were you also woken up by rain and thunder earlier this morning? Our weather station registered 18.8 mm of rain in less than 20 minutes. The temperature almost instantly dropped by one degree Celsius. We are curious to see how quickly it will heat up again. ⛈

Thanks to over 343 foto's 📸made by dozens of Citizen Scientists we have been able to follow last year's landscape changes of the Wageningen Floodplains very closely. The video of this and other locations is now on our Citizen Science youtube channel.
You can see the flowering Hawthorn and Ragwort in May,the white Yarrow and blue Chicory in July, trees loosing their leaves in October and November, flooding and ice in February, grazing sheep in April and then it starts all over again... 🌱🌳🍂❄️🐑

Een jaar lang foto's maken vanaf de dijk levert deze prachtige film op, met indrukwekkende veranderingen in het landschap.
