Buerbreen 2018 - big changes this season. Now we only take special groups to the glacier - no individual tourists. We are very sorry about this development, but nature rules here. Instead we now offer a 2 days tour to Hardangerjøkulen including hiking on the High mountain Plateau, overnight stay outdoors / in a small cabin and glacier walking.

I år har er vi så heldige å med oss Hvitserk & Eventyrreiser AS på laget for å ivareta sikkerheten til utøverne. Vi tok en prat med Thor Elvebakk som leder gruppa som skal fungere som baktropp og hjelpe utøvere som trenger det underveis.

Thor, hvem er dere?
Vi er fire stykker med bred erfaring fra natur og friluftsliv. Tilsammen har vi over 20 års erfaring i å ta med andre mennesker på tur, både høyt, langt og kaldt. Vi har flere Grønlandskrysninger, Svalbard på langs, Nordvestpassasjen og selvfølgelig andre flotte Norgesturer i bagasjen. På laget har vi også flere gjennomføringer av Åsnes Expedition Amundsen, både som deltager og i sikkerhetstroppen. Vi er ydmyke ovenfor oppgaven, men gleder oss stort!

Det å være med i sikkerhetstroppen er god trening, både fordi flere av oss skal ut på lengre skiturer senere i år og fordi vi trenger stadig vekk å trene opp vår egen kompetanse i forhold til sikkerhet, førstehjelp og navigering. Åsnes Expedition Amundsen er en glimrende læringsarena for samarbeid og øving, både for deltagere og crew.
Vi gleder oss til igjen å få oppleve den gode stemningen, alle de hyggelige menneskene og alt som omfavner Åsnes Expedition Amundsen. Ikke minst å få gå på en del av Hardangervidda som fortsatt er litt «ukjent» for mange.

Har dere noen gode råd til deltagerne?
Vårt råd må være at selv om det er en konkurranse, så må man ikke glemme å nyte naturopplevelsen. Husk å hjelpe og pass på hverandre underveis dersom det skulle oppstå behov!

SNEAK PEEK on this winter's Snow shoing expedition Adventure !

Snow Shoe EXPEDITON on Hardangervidda:
After breakfast all participants are briefed and equipped with the gear for the trip:
Snow shoes, ski poles, pulk, ( equipment sledge) ,tent, sleeping bag, reindeer skins, safety gear, cooking device/gear, lamp, some additional clothing depending on the weather forecast + some common gear for the group.

All is packed in the pulks and – if you carry one - in your own back pack as well.
We will be transported to the starting point at the border of the “Hardangervidda National park” and will start our trip ascending to the high plateau. The trip will take us out of the birch tree forrest above the tree line into the white tundra – we will navigate following the height curves in order to save energy reaching our camp site after app 5-6 hours of hiking with breaks with tea/soup and a lunch break. This is the area where the famous Roald Amundsen was practising before his polar attempts – it is also the southernmost area for polar fox, snow owl and the area of the largest wild population of reindeers in Europe ( however we are unlikely to see much more than footprints …because they are wild)

Close to our campsite we can get a glance of the Hardangerfjord and the Hardangerjøkul Glacier far away - to the other side the endless snow dunes of the Hardangervidde plateau. At the camp site we will set up our North Face expedition tents ( 2-3 persons in each tent) safely so they can withstand possible heavy winds/snow storm during the night. Dinner is cooked and served . Those who have energy to spare can take some small hikes/peak ascends around the camp – or/and participate in the avalanche rescue training/survival tips at the camp site. Our guide will entertain with stories, history and wild life info in the evening.
Our altitude and absence of disturbing artificial lights makes it possible to see the stars very clearly – even northern light at rare occasions ! - and if moon light permits we can make a small hike before going to sleep.

We will participate in cooking and eating the breakfast – pack the tents and sleeping equipment – before continuing the last 5 hour leg of our trip. The second day’s snowshoeing is taking us through a beautiful landscape into another valley – again breaks with tea/soup and a lunch before we reach the road taking us down to the FlatEarth Adventure centre.

On this lovely September day 2 groups of sporty guests from Thomson Celebration joined FlatEarth Adventures for a breathtaking kayak tour. The fjord could not have presented itself any better - calm water - golden sunshine - and even a rainbow appearing in the afternoon....
