In 1899, Kristian Birkeland built the world's first Northern Lights observatory on the top of Mt. Alta is a great choice for vistors seeking to experience the magic of the Northern Lights. As since year 2000, it has been named the City of the Northern Lights. The stable climate with many days of clear sky and in general very good weather conditions are reasons why several international scientific expeditions carried out in Alta.

SarvesAlta Aktivitetspark is the northernmost climbing park in the world and offers a variety of 55 games between the pine trees, including 10 ziplines 🌲 You can challenge your fear of heights with varying degrees of difficulty.

New menu at Brasseri Alta 🙌

Brasseri Alta recently launched a new menu, with exciting dishes such as tuna tataki, reindeer tartar and bubble wafles 🤩🍴 Brasseri Alta is located at Thon Hotel Alta and serves à la carte for both guests and locals. The restaurant is open Tuesday-Saturday from 17 to 22.

The Midnight Sun is a unique phenomenon that lights up areas above the Arctic Circle during the summer months. Alta is ready for Finnmarksløpet 2024! 🐕

The world championship has officially started! Finnmarksløpet is Europe's longest and the world’s northernmost sled dog race. The mushers at FL1200 started out today and the mushers FL600 and FL Junior will start out tomorrow. Some of our partners competes in the race.

King crabs were first discovered in Norway in 1977. Originally native to the northern Pacific Ocean, they were introduced by the Soviet Union in the 1960s to the Murmansk Fjord. From there, they rapidly spread along the Norwegian coast, reaching even Svalbard. It is estimated that king crabs arrived in the Alta Fjord around 2012.

We are happy and proud to share the news that Discover Airlines is opening a direct route from Frankfurt to Alta, with the inaugural flight scheduled for December 19, 2024 🥳 There will be two weekly round-trip flights until March 27, 2025. The establishment of this new direct route between Frankfurt and Alta is historic: it marks the first direct air connection between Europe and Finnmark ✈

The creation of this direct route with Discover Airlines is a significant milestone for the tourism industry in the Alta region and for the entire local community.
