Christine in her hometown, Bergen, in late 2019, just as The Travel Designer was preparing to change its name to The Luxury Travel Designer, to celebrate its 10-year anniversary. The company had grown ferociously, ranking in the top 1% most successful businesses in Norway in 2018, 2019 and 2020; yet the pandemic was just around the corner, and the sternest test of her resolve, and the resilience of her team, was yet to come.

Not only did the company survive the global travel shutdown, but the team emerged leaner, more focused, and fit for the future. Having been through the fire together, Christine and her team are now striving to take The Luxury Travel Designer onwards to new and greater heights.

Never the type to sit from nine to five in an office, Christine still leaps at the chance to get out and host clients personally whenever she can. It’s in their gaiety, their laughter, in the awe spreading slowly across their faces, that Christine finds the rewards of her labor.

One of the most experienced driver/guides in the industry, she welcomes travelers with the warmth of family - and many do, in the course of their adventures together, become long-term friends. This is Christine in the wild, joining clients on a hike up the Nigardsbreen Glacier in the Jostedalen Valley.

PROUDLY PRESENTING: Founder & CEO, Christine Cecilie Gaffney.

A restless innovator with a deeply caring core, Christine has driven, sailed and flown clients around the Nordics for more than a quarter of a century.

She knew from a young age that her life’s vocation lay in organizing journeys to enrich people’s lives, and at only 23, she completed her degree in Tour Production, Marketing & Sales from leading Parisian business school Ecole Nationale de Commerce Bessières.

From here on, she started laying the groundwork of realizing her vision of a Nordic travel service which provides not only outstanding journeys and experiences, but also meaningful encounters; connections with local people that leave a lasting impression.

Here she is at the world’s leading experiential travel fair, PURE, Marrakech, in 2010. Since founding The Travel Designer that same year, she has run the hard yards, attending countless showcases and events, weaving the threads of the network that underpins our operations today.

Almost three years to the day since COVID lockdowns brought travel to a standstill around the globe – but we certainly haven’t stood still since then!

The Luxury Travel Designer is flourishing once again, and we’ve just arrived home from a month-long US tour to launch our brand new ventures, DUE NORTH Travel, DUE NORTH Air, and DUE NORTH Hideaways.

We’re endlessly grateful to Norwegian Consul General Heidi Olufson for allowing us to host our celebration event in her stunning New York residence. A huge thank you as well to everybody who attended, and to our partners and suppliers who gave so generously to the prize draw for our guests.

The whole team was there, as well as Erlend from Airlift, Webjørn and Anita from TunheimsFjørå Lodge and Tonny from Isbreen - The Glacier. A particular shout out to Ellen and Sara Margarethe, who travelled more than 3,700mi to perform their traditional Sami joik, which brought tears to everyone's eyes.

You made it possible for us to bring a piece of Norway to the Big Apple.
