Saltstraumen on the beautiful day 28 October 2023😍

The Saltstraumen is created when the tide flows in and out of Skjerstadfjorden. The height difference in sea level between the inside and outside of the narrow strait can be as much as one meter (three feet). To equalize the tidal difference, enormous masses of water are pushed four times a day at great speed through the three km long, and at its narrowest point only 150 meters wide, strait. Estimates suggest 372-400 million cubic meters of water is pushed through the strait. The average speed seems to be around 7 knots (approx. 13 km/h) and the top speed considerably higher. The current can achieve a speed of approx. 20 knots. Like all tidal currents, the Saltstraumen is strongest just after the new and full moon

Important Info!!
Until now, the halibut have been protected south of 62 degrees in the period from 20 December to 31 March. This protection applies to the entire country. This means that you are not allowed to fish specifically for halibut with any type of gear during this period, regardless of where you are in Norway.

In addition to this, the minimum size limit for halibut is extended from 80 to 84 centimeters, while the maximum size of 200 centimeters is maintained. In plain text, this means that all halibut that are smaller than 84 centimetres must be released back in the water.

Vi har haft bra Sejfiske efter gott tips på Fiskeplats. Effektivt med Speed Jigg. Fiskade på 50-60 meters djup och fick Sej upp till 9 kilo
Full låda igår och god mat till fruarna där hemma så att vi får åka snart igen ;) Alltid bra service och trevlig personal.

Winter is here and it's beautiful 😍

Steve's blog Day 4 . Baltic today with a paralizing wind we opted for some comfort on the rocks nearby. 🪨 bait rods set with giant bluey we busied with the lures to keep the blood flowing🥶 big shoals of herring present meant the large cod still lurking and it wasn't long before the fun began . A nicely shaped 20lb er made an appearance and was quickly returned but not before yanking up several 10" herrings . Gary and Paul joined the fun simultaneously landing big doubles and 20lb fish. An hour passed without baits worried and the talk was of putting the beach rods away. Que the ratchet and Gary was away attached to a decent halibut. As Gary steared the fish close a great fish of around 30kg appeared . Still full of fight the fish made a last run for freedom and cut Gary's line off on the nearby reef .. desperately unlucky mate😪 . The fishing slowed and a move to the pontoons was on the cards . Rewarded instantly I found myself attached to a very big fish . Powerful dives matched with great stamina tested tackle and man . The hands were numb🥶 with fish at hand my wingmen Gary and Tommy lifted her safely out. A quick measure and photo and she was quickly returned, no more than 3 mins out the water . Over the moon and another memory we savour😃🎣

A new year has now passed without travel restrictions, we are so incredibly grateful to have a full house and nice customers. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Saltstraumen Brygge is located 33 kilometers from the city of Bodø. We have the perfect place to relax and enjoy midnight sun in summer and amazing northern lights in winter.

All our housing is only 20 meters from the sea and 200 meters from one of the Wild Wonders of Europe – the world’s strongest Saltstraumen Maelstrom. Saltstraumen and Saltenfjord are one of the best spots for fishing in Norway.

At Saltstraumen Brygge you can find many fishing marks just a small walk from the camp, you can also fish just outside the apartments or you can rent a boat from us for deep sea fishing.

We rent out boats all year round for tours in fjords or for long trips out to sea. In our store you can find a wide range of fishing tackle, supply of rods, reels, jigs and accessories.
