Havila Kystruten made history by sailing the world heritage in Geiranger emission-free (and silently) powered by battery on 2 June 2022. Four years before the requirement from the government for emission free sailings in Norwegian World Heritage fjords comes into force! ✅💚

Havila Kystruten not allowed to insure Havila Capella

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rejected the application for a exemption in order to insure Havila Capella.
In a decision made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 26 April 2022, it became known that they had granted Havila Kystruten a exemption from the sanctions regulations to operate Havila Capella for 6 months.

The exemption did not entail any right to insure the ship and on Monday the Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the shipping company's application to take out insurance on the grounds that being able to take out insurance in itself would mean that a property is made available to the registered owner.

As a result of this decision, we will have to cancel the voyage with Havila Capella leaving Bergen 15 May. Affected guests will be contacted.

Havila Castor is not affected by the sanctions and will sail the maiden voyage from Bergen 10 May as planned.

The Norwegian Coastal Administration, with Director General Einar Vik Arset at the helm, will build the world's first full-scale ship tunnel - Stad skipstunnel/Stad Ship Tunnel. This will ensure a safer sea voyage for travelers and seafarers at one of Norway's most violent sea stretches.🌊 Per Sævik, chairman of the board of Havila Voyages, has been involved in this project since the beginning, and he sees great potential both for safety at sea ⚓and for tourism😎 in the area.

Havila Capella has been granted a dispensation to sail! 🤩

“We are very happy that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given us a dispensation from the sanctions regulations. This means that the ship is now not sanctioned, since we do not operate in violation of any current regulations”, says CEO Bent Martini.

Havila Capella is still not allowed to sail

Due to the continued lack of approval from the authorities and thus uncertainty related to valid insurance on the ship, Havila Voyages must also cancel the next round trip with Havila Capella.

This week, Havila Voyages has worked in close dialogue with the Norwegian authorities to find a solution for the ship to sail again. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet reached a conclusion, and as a result, Havila Voyages will have to cancel the next voyage, which is scheduled to start on Saturday 23rdof April.

Round trip with Havila Capella cancelled

Havila Voyages has been forced to cancel the round trip Bergen - Kirkenes - Bergen, which was planned to start on 12 April 2022, due to the still unresolved situation related to the ship's insurance coverage.

Passengers on board will receive assistance for their return trip home as soon as possible, and all travelers will get a refund for their voyage with Havila Capella.

Havila Voyages/Kystruten supports the Norwegian authorities' sanctions against Russia and complies with the sanctions made.
Our first ship Havila Capella is in operation and will continue to be so. The ship is the only one of our four ships that has been leased through GTLK and we are now working on new financing for this ship.
The three other ships to be delivered during 2022 are currently in the ownership of the Tersan shipyard until delivery, and Havila Kystruten Operations AS is now working on a new solution for the financing of these ships. This means that the Havila Voyages/Kystruten is moving away from the original financing.
All sailings are planned to go according to a communicated sailing schedule.

It has been a hectic and exciting year for us in Havila Voyages.
Employees, the shipyard and suppliers have worked day and night to get Havila Capella up and running, and we are so grateful for the warm welcome we have received from the people along the coast, from our followers and from our guests in relation to the maiden voyage! 🥰 We look forward to the continuation and to get all four ships in operation in 2022! 🇳🇴
