Vestvågøy is the largest municipality in Lofoten, situated in the middle of the islands. Tourism, fisheries, farming, education, health care, ship repair services and trade are employing many of our 11.400 inhabitants.
Our nature given sights such as Eggum, Unstad, Utakleiv, Haukland, Ballstad, Stamsund and Valberg, and the surrounding mountains, attract visitors from all over the world, both winter and summer.
The traditional cod fisheries January through March has become an attraction in itself, where you as a visitor can take part. Year around, local fishermen can take you fishing and tell you stories from past times. Returning to shore, you can have your own catch served by chefs who knows how to handle seafood.
Unlike the other islands i Lofoten, Vestvågøy is large on agriculture. The cultivated fields you drive past are for winter feeding the cattle, sheep and goats and in summer you will see the livestock grassing in the mountains. Visiting the farm shops you can taste an buy world class cheese, herbs and spices. Also try the family friendly mountain tracks between some of the farms.
