For 2024 we are working with and

We’ll be riding and renting out Pivot bikes provided by Birk Sport in Oslo!

After spending some years on a ‘big’ bike we’re riding something a little smaller and more playful this year, a 140mm Pivot Switchblade, ideal for guiding and so far a lot of fun to ride. We’re also moving in to the E-bike world with a Pivot Shuttle AM which gives us a lot more possibilities in our guiding offers, as well as a great shuttle bike to explore new routes and access trail building locations.

We also have a small selection of these to rent in size large and medium.

So far Kim at Birk has been super helpful, enthusiastic and fun to work with so we look forward what’s to come this summer. Look out for a Birk customers private trip to Nesbyen later this season!

We’ve just been for a quick trip back to England before we get stuck in to preparations for this coming season.

It’s a good few weeks closer to spring over there and it’s got us dreaming of full summer days like this!

Riding bikes is great, but sometimes the thrill of finding new trails is even better.

Imagine you are just walking through the forest exploring and suddenly you come across an old bike trail that has been forgotten and left to deteriorate. Nobody has ridden it for years and you could bring it back to life for everyone to ride again. That is how it feels exploring the forests around Nesbyen, except that it is almost certain that nobody has ever ridden the trail.

Take a look at the film we put together that shows how we go about finding and building trails as well as the riding community here in Nesbyen - Forgotten Timber Trails In Nesbyen, Norway With Manon Carpenter.

Who recognises this trail? Last year we found a little sneaky extra segment on a popular trail we guide on. We’ll see about adding this little ridgeline in to the trips this season!

Project new AETR accommodation has restarted and work is well under way. We’re aiming to be complete by the beginning of June. Lots of messy work going on at the moment!

We may have to wait a while for the mountain top trails to be snow free this season but fear not! We have a large selection of fantastic trails lower down in the valley that are rideable much earlier in the season!

We’ve got some fantastic high mountain singletrack to be explored around here but with all of this years snow I’m wondering how long it will be before these trails will start to emerge from under the white stuff… hoping for a warm spring so we can get up high as soon as possible!

📷 by from an exploration to Hallingnatten two summers ago with Klara, Manon, Pete and Nora. Wondering if we found any nice trails from 1314m height back down to 150m altitude in Nesbyen? Get in contact and we can show you this summer.

Wheelies in the woods.

A balmy 8° tonight here in Nesbyen giving us a little sniff of spring. It might still be the middle of winter but temperatures like these have is looking ahead to the snow melting and trails emerging from under the the white layer of snow.

We’ll have some new trails with some fantastic views to guide you on in 2024.

In 2022 we explored a couple of new areas and found some great new trails however we never got to guide anyone on them last year. We can’t wait to take people on them in 2024, not least because this area probably has the best views in Nesbyen.

After a 2023 of almost no guiding days, we’re looking forward to a packed summer of riding! Especially with this speedy girl, I’m sure she will prefer days out on the trails rather than ok the construction site.

What happened in 2023 and what is going to happen in 2024?

If you've been wondering where I have been for the last 12 months then here is a little explanation. In short - I, together with some others, decided to open a bakery, cafe and pizzeria and this completely took over my life in 2023. This project has been up and running since July 2023 and exists in Nesbyen as The Bear House. I hope that as many of you as possible get to visit and use it in the coming years.

Doing this was an absolute rollercoaster ride of learning and emotions - desiging, building, opening and running the business. I'm very proud to have done it but the main thing it has taught me is that life is all about mountain biking. in 2024 we'll be focusing once again on all things bike!

Now, where’s my toolbox, I better get restarted on this house renovation...

Thanks to Finholt Productions for putting this together for me.

MAGAZINE FEATURE ALERT!
Check out EP3 of the x collaboration.

Link to buy the magazine is in our bio.

The article is all about the World War II plane wreck that is located just outside of Nesbyen. We planned a route from Ål to Nesbyen on some trails that were new to us. It took us up and over one of the highest mountains in the valley, Dyna - 1212m. We took in all sorts of trail types before we reached the site of the plane crash just west of Nesbyen.

The Lancaster bomber was on its way back from a successful mission to sink the Tirpitz in Kåfjord just outside of Tromsø. Unfortunately the plane took an incorrect route on its way back to Britain and ran out of fuel over the hills of Hallingdal, crashing Into the side of Syningen at about 1000m altitude. Part of the plane wreck still sit on the mountain side whilst bodies of the World War two soldiers were buried in the church yard in Nesbyen. Each May 17th they are commemorated in the Norwegian national day parade, remembering the freedom they helped bring.

The start of the season is just days away!

We've had a pretty solid winter and there are still some lingering signs but the guys have been out cleaning some snow and ice and the sun will shine for the rest of the week to get rid of the rest!

We'll be at Trailcamp and The Bear House will be sorting everyone out with food! See you there.

What are we building? I've posted a lot of snapshots of the ongoing building work at our new accommodation so I thought it was about time to show you what you can expect when we are finished.

Here are some plans and 3Ds of the new guest accommodation. The building is a solid timber building from 1880, whilst renovating we'll look to keep and expose some interesting and orginal features and the accommodation will include:

- 4 bedrooms
- 10 beds
- large living room
- second smaller living room
- two bathrooms with heated floors
- large kitchen dining room
- entrance hallway with drying area
- washing and drying facilities
- bike workshop and storage
- mountain views
- fibre internet
- large private garden
- walking distance to town

We also plan several further projects over the coming years to make this place into a unique place to stay and we'll add further facilities when time and finances allow. Any suggestions for what you would like to see?

WE'RE HIRING. For 2023 we are looking for an extra guide to join our team.

We are looking for someone who can entertain and keep large groups of unruly men and women under control whilst at the same time knows a thing or two about bike handling. Someone who can fix a puncture at the same time as fixing a broken arm. Someone who can keep a group motivated, even on a rainy day. Someone who loves Land Rovers, loves tight corners and loves Norröna. Someone who can't think about anything else at night except for when we'll go build the next berm. Someone who can manual down a fireroad one handed for some sweet insta content. Someone who can follow an e-biker for 30km on their analogue bike...

But seriously, if you love bikes, maps, coffee, pizza and can speak English or Norwegian then get in touch.

In 2023 we'll also open a new cafe and restaurant in Nesbyen, therefore there will be the opportunity for extra work over here. P.s. free coffee, bread, cinamon buns and pizza are very likely.

We will offer a salary based on experience. We have sponsorship deals with Norrøna and Giro which employees will benefit from, we're currently working on a deal for bikes as well.

If you are interested then please send an email with your CV to [email protected] or give us a call on +47 92144843
