Today May 17th Norway celebrates the National day.
We celebrate the signing of the Norwegian Constitution in 1814, which declared Norway an independent kingdom after centuries of union with Denmark, even it was not fully achieved until 1905.
Instead of celebrating it with a military parade as many countries do, in Norway is a party for everyone, especially children.
The day starts with a huge breakfast gathering friends, families and neighbors, followed by children’s parades waving flags and shouting hooray!
It’s a very inclusive day and visitors are always welcome to join, focusing on eating huge amounts of ice cream, hot dogs and playing games at local schools.
Both women and men show off their Bunad, the Norway’s traditional costume worn, with some variations, showing from which part of Norway the owners ancestors are coming.
It’s a very special day to be in Norway, so if you are here, don’t hesitate and join the celebration! 🎉
