Our last group for the year safely crossed the Thorung La pass on Dec 04. We are proud and happy to report that we did not have a single helicopter evacuation this Autumn season. All credit to our capable guides and our strong/healthy trekkers.

Mandip Limbu, standing third from left wearing the Crystal Mountain Treks fleece, started out as a porter more than a decade ago. One of our trekkers, Robin Glenn, sponsored his English language classes in Kathmandu. This season Mandip successfully lead his first camping trek for two trekkers (with 10 support staff) completing the 30-day Lumba Sumba pass trek: Kanchenjunga to Makalu Base Camp. He will now be leading more treks in the future. (He is currently leading his second trek this season in the Annapurna region).

Is October the best month for trekking in Nepal? In the past couple years, weather has been bad for up to the second week of October. This year, bad weather disrupted flights until the third week of October. Over 1,150 trekkers landed in Lukla on a single day. So is it time to start recommending trekkers come later in the Autumn season - either in late October or in November?!

Tara Air, Sita Air, and Summit Air operate a total of 47 flights, while helicopters completed 130 flights on Monday.

Nepal’s only functioning international aviation gateway, at Kathmandu airport, will cut night-time operation hours to allow construction of taxiways, and airlines have been told to curtail flights. The airport will close from 10PM to 8AM from 8 November-31 March 2025.
This is expected to lead to more than normal chaos during the height of peak autumn and spring tourist seasons at an airport that is congested even at the best of times.

On May 6 Chris Natsuume, who has completed multiple treks with Crystal Mountain Treks, embarked on a 20-day trek to Manaslu Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. Chris is on a quest to trek to all 14 Base Camps of mountains over 8,000 meters. He was accompanied by CMT guide Reinji Sherpa and photographer/videographer Devraj Rai. This is a video account of their trek. They began their trek late in the Spring season and hence experienced some cloudy days and pre-monsoon rains.

The Dhaulagiri Circuit trek is one of the most remote treks in Nepal which can be undertaken in under 3 weeks. We arrived at Dhaulagiri Base Camp after walking for several days on precarious trails (on a moraine and through narrow canyons with rockfall danger). Chris has made it to Manaslu Base Camp where the clouds cleared to reveal mighty Manaslu - a welcome respite after three days of rain. Chris plans to hike to the Base Camps of all the 14 highest mountains. This is Base Camp 3 of 14. Most mountaineers take a helicopter ride to base camp and forgo the beauty of the trails leading up to Base Camp.
