Team Cordial Trek is highly elated to announce the beginning of our next expedition to Everest Base Camp (5364 m) with the ever endearing father-son duo from the United Kingdom. The journey began from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu on Monday with a thrilling 30 minutes flight to Lukla. May we remind you, the airstrip in Lukla is considered to be one of the most challenging airports in the world. We then had a layover in Phakding for day one before making our way to Namche Bazaar on Day-2. Namche, the gateway to Everest, is a bustling town serving as a crucial stopover point for trekkers and adventurers that offers its travelers a unique blend of Sherpa culture and modern amenities. We now spend our night here to relax and acclimatize for adjusting to the higher altitudes before continuing our journey any further.

Happy Janai Purnima & Raksha Bandhan 🙏

Falling on the full moon of Shravan (mid-August), it marks a dual celebration. For many, it is a spiritually significant day to change the sacred thread, Janai. Our ever cheerful guests from the Czech Republic were looking for a fun packed afternoon within the city limits while still in this mysterious capital. They were sagacious and opted for a hike inside Shivapuri National Park, the youngest and the only National Park inside Kathmandu Valley. The park offers its visitors a fantastic escape from the bustling city while the hike to the top rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges (if weather permits). After a whirlwind day exploring seven heritage sites, he was still eager to delve deeper with a full-day trek through the mystical Kathmandu Valley. The Jamacho Hike is what we referred to him and he took no moment to sign up.

Also known as the Nagarjun/Jamacho Day Hike, it offers its travelers stunning views of the Himalayas and a chance to explore the natural beauty of the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. On a bright and clear sunny day of course. Regardless, the hike itself is generally considered an easy to moderate hike, making it suitable for people with a decent fitness level. The total distance is around 10-12 kilometers (6-7 miles) roundtrip with an elevation gain of roughly 800 meters (2600 feet).

After a couple of challenging days of our journey, we crested a final rise this afternoon to behold the magnificent walled city of Lo Manthang, the crown jewel of Upper Mustang. The town of Lo Manthang is the old capital of the former Kingdom of Lo and is a fascinating place known for its medieval earthen walls built in the 15th century. These walls enclose the town and give it a unique character. Furthermore, there are many monasteries in the region including Jampa Lhakhang and Thupchen Lhakhang from the 15th century, and Choede Lakhang from the 18th century. Moreover, the people of Lo Manthang share close cultural ties with Tibet which gets reflected in their traditions and festivals as well.

As we continue to hike higher up inside the restricted areas of Upper Mustang, the trails are getting considerably moderate with some ups and downs but not much of a challenge in itself. The path mostly winds through the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge, one of the deepest gorges in the world where we are awestruck by the towering cliffs and the powerful Kali Gandaki River carving its path through the Himalayas. On our way, we are also passing through many traditional villages that offer us a glimpse into the Tibetan culture and lifestyle of the region. Moreover, the arid landscape of Upper Mustang, with its unique rock formations and colorful prayer flags is definitely creating a photogenic backdrop for our journey.

This morning we began our trek from Kagbeni (2804 m) and entered the restricted area of Upper Mustang. The first halt for the trip at Chele was nothing less than astoundingly amazing. Chele is a traditional Tibetan Buddhist village at an elevation of 3050 m on the eastern bank of the Kali Gandaki River and is known for its well-preserved culture and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Moreover, the village also features traditional mud-brick houses with flat roofs reflecting the architectural style of the region.
