TIGER'S NEST / WHERE BEAUTY AND SPIRITUALITY COME TOGETHER

Taktsang Lhakhang Monastery, known as the Tiger’s Nest, is one of the most famous landmarks in Bhutan. We bet every traveler has heard of it: this Buddhist monastery literally hangs from a sheer cliff at a height of 3 120 meters, towering 700 meters above the Paro Valley.

Legend has it that in the 8th century, Guru Padmasambhava flew here on the back of a tigress his wife had turned into and meditated in a cave. This is how the spiritual significance of this place was established, and the monastery that sprang up here got its name from this story.

Visiting the monastery can be considered a full-fledged little adventure - you can get here only on foot along the mountain path, and the road itself will take about 2-3 hours. The process itself deserves special attention - the picturesque forest path is decorated with prayer flags, and the views from here open up to the Paro valley surrounded by mountains.

The best time to visit is in spring and fall, when the weather is most favorable for trekking. If you want to save your strength, we can organize a horseback ride.

MONK DEBATES / FOLLOWING THE ANCIENT KNOWLEDGE

At Sera Monastery, one of Xizang’s largest Buddhist universities, monks hold daily philosophical debates, an important part of their training and spiritual practice.

These debates are not just disputes, but a ritualized process where one monk asks questions and the other monk must answer quickly and logically to defend his point of view.

The debates are very energetic: monks jump, clap their hands, make special gestures, each of which has its own meaning. For example, clapping symbolizes an energetic message and helps to train equanimity, and kicking "grounds" aggression, leaving only a pure question. The goal of debate is not to defeat your opponent, but to gain a deeper understanding of the Buddha's teachings and to develop wisdom, stress resistance and the ability to communicate clearly.

Sera Monastery was founded in the 15th century and still maintains this tradition, which helps monks internalize Buddhist philosophy through lively debate and logical analysis.

For travelers exploring Xizang, debates have become an accessible spectacle - everyone is welcome to observe this unique form of learning and spiritual development.

TIBET IS NO MORE / WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

As of May 7, 2025, all official papers should no longer have the word “Tibet” in them. From now on the only correct name for the area is Xizang Province. This is what the region should be called when applying for a visa, getting a permit, making an itinerary, etc. If the word “Tibet” appears in the document, it will not be valid.

The renaming is part of China's official policy. If you are looking for information or preparing to make a reservation, be prepared to encounter both names - "Tibet" and "Xizang". This will help you avoid confusion.

The rules for entering Tibet have not changed significantly since the region was renamed, but authorities have announced plans to simplify procedures for foreign travelers. As of now, entry requires a Chinese visa and a Permit, which is issued through licensed organizations and is valid for a certain route.

The main changes concern the simplification of obtaining a permit: it is planned to reduce the time required to process applications, implement an online application system and expand cooperation. That said, it is still compulsory to travel in groups or with an accredited guide, especially in the restricted areas of Tibet. Sorry, Xizang Province.

A NEW WAYPOINT / ECHOES OF THE PAST IN HAMPI

When it seems that you know a country inside out, it's time to dig into its history - from our experience, this is always followed by a series of discoveries and new inspirations.

Hampi in India is no exception, as this city stands on the ruins of a once great state - the Vijayanagara Empire, which existed here from the XIV to XVII centuries.

In its heyday, crafts, trade and art flourished in the streets of Vijayanagara: diamonds and silks were sold in the bazaars, palaces were decorated with gold, magnificent ceremonies were held in temples whilst emperors organized solemn receptions.

Vijayanagara was the center of technological and cultural progress in the region. Even then, given the fact that the population of the capital was twice as large as that of London, it had one of the most advanced drainage systems, and the architecture of Vijayanagara impresses with its uniqueness to this day.

The Vittala temple alone, which stands to this day, says a lot. Its architectural composition is 56 carved granite columns, which when struck produce sounds similar to musical notes. The ceiling of the temple is decorated with carvings resembling sound waves, which may testify to the ancient knowledge of sound and vibration.

Tapping into the cultural and historical heritage of the country is always a good idea. Next time you plan a new India itinerary with us, don't forget to include Hampi in your trip - it's time to head out for new discoveries!

HIMALAYAS / THE GIANT

Our trek to Everest base camp passed through many picturesque villages and monasteries. The start of the trek was in Lukla - after 2 days we arrived at Namche Bazar, from where we could already catch views of the Himalayan mountain range.

Our first encounter with Everest was the very next day - on the hill where Tengboche Monastery is located. At that time it still seemed an unattainable giant looking at us from afar.

Further, moving from point to point, we became closer and closer to the main giants of the world, breathed the same air with them, admired their beauty and grandeur, fell in love and tried to capture every moment.

During 12 days of trekking each of us could find a mountain that we wanted to look at every second. Will you find the one? Scroll to find out👉

THE GANGES / HOLY SPRING

The Ganges is one of the sacred rivers, central to Hindu culture and religion. Flowing through India and Bangladesh, it sustains the lives of millions of people and is a symbol of spiritual purification and holiness.

In Hindu mythology, the Ganges is considered a heavenly river that descended to earth through the efforts of King Bhagiratha and Shiva, and bathing in it is an obligatory ritual for many Hindus - it is believed that the waters of the Ganges wash away the sins.

Because of its religious significance, the Ganges attracts many pilgrims from all over the world year after year - travelers come here to visit Varanasi, Haridwar and Allahabad, where major religious festivals are held.

The year 2025 was no exception as over 400 million pilgrims from all over the world gathered at the banks for the Kumbh Mela, which is held just once every 12 years.

In addition, the river forms a huge ecosystem with rich biodiversity, from endangered river dolphins to Bengal tigers and Indian elephants.

Coming to the Ganges for the culture, nature or all together is always a good idea. And we'll make sure that any journey your clients goes smooth and exciting.

TREK TO EVEREST BASE CAMP / HOW IT WENT

Our recent journey has come to an end!

Amazing, full of impressions, emotions and experience, it has definitely changed more than one life. Winding between yak caravans, we walked, discovering Nepal: from buzzing and energetic Kathmandu to quiet small villages, from mountain plains to steep slopes, from ancient monasteries to the majestic peaks of the Himalayas.

Sagarmatha National Park greeted us with all kinds of weather: bright sun, raging wind and even snow (just a little bit, for the sake of picturesqueness). Every step we met amazing people, and around us stretched an incredible mountain range - each peak seemed to look from above and call us to go further. And so we walked.

Day after day, altitude after altitude, discovery after discovery - and that very moment finally came. Everest Base Camp. 5 364 meters above sea level. A place where emotions are so loud their volume rises higher than Everest himself. A place where the bravest people known to humanity begin their ascents, striving to conquer the main peaks of the world.

We are grateful to everyone who made this journey possible, and to everyone who became a part of it.

Stay in touch and follow the updates - there are many more journeys ahead with Asiatic Roads. When the mountains call, it's time to answer.
