Winter Pilgrimage season in Tibet
The pilgrimage season in Tibet typically begins in April and reaches its peak during the summer months, coinciding with favorable weather and important religious events like the Saga Dawa Festival, which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Buddha.
In contrast, winter offers a more serene and intimate experience for pilgrims, especially in central Tibet cities like Lhasa. With fewer tourist crowds, it’s the perfect time to immerse yourself in authentic Tibetan spiritual practices.

Saga Dawa Dunchen Festival 2024
Our 30-day trip to the Saga Dawa Dunchen festival, held on May 23, 2024, in Tarpoche, Ngari, Kailash, was the most challenging yet equally satisfying and rewarding journey we have organized this year.
The annual Saga Dawa Dunchen celebration takes place on the full moon day of the fourth month in the Tibetan calendar to commemorate three significant events in the life of Lord Buddha: his birth, enlightenment, and death.
We were delighted to host a group of culturally motivated, passionate, and adventurous individuals who reached Tarpoche, Kailash, on time after an 8-day trek from Simikot (West Nepal) to Hilsa (Tibet border) to witness the festival.
The group trekked through the pristine, culturally rich natural heritage of western Nepal before crossing high Himalayan passes into the Tibetan plateau.
As part of the program, after witnessing the festival, we organized a day hike, crossing glacial streams and reaching the base of Mount Kailash for an up-close view of the sacred mountain before undertaking the clockwise trek (kora) around it. We also facilitated explorations of the ancient temples of Gyadrak and Selung, located at the base of Kailash's inner kora section.
Following the Kailash pilgrimage, the group embarked on a 10-day expedition to Everest Base Camp, Kharta, and the Khangsung Valley. This trek, one of the most remote in central Tibet, included visits to Makalu Base Camp and the east face of Everest. The trail led through a variety of captivating landscapes, including alpine meadows, wildflower-filled forests, glaciated valleys, and high mountain passes. Travelers also experienced traditional Tibetan villages, ancient monasteries, rich barley fields, picturesque yak pastures, Tibetan nomadic culture, glaciers, and emerald-green lakes. Tibetans call this area Khempalung, meaning Shangri-La, the land of gods and goddesses. It is believed that the great tantric master Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche) once performed tantr
