DAY 8 (extended edition): EVENING in GORAKSHEP - To warm the tea house, you need something to burn. And if you want something to burn and there are no trees, it’s either gotta get carried in (heavy, expensive), or it comes out the back of an animal (not heavy, free). When the fumes grew thick enough to taste in the back of my throat, I figured I oughta get some fresh air…and I’m so glad I did, because Pumori and the rest of the valley really put on a show.

DAY 4: NAMCHE BAZAAR to TENGBOCHE - In the 16th century, Lama Sangwa Dorje meditated in one spot so frequently and for so long that his footprints are now embedded in the rock where he stood. There he predicted that a monastery would be built in Tengboche. Four centuries later, Ngawang Tenzin Norbu, considered Dorje’s fifth incarnation, gave the blessing for Lama Gulu to build the Tengboche Monastery in 1916. The rock with Dorje’s footprints is now housed inside.

“A few minutes ago, a monk pointed to the sky and then to me, and began to laugh. I’m not sure if he was pleased with me, the snowy weather, or his heightened proximity to enlightenment, but either way, there’s something about a monk’s smile that feels like some higher form of approval.” - journal entry, 3/20

STATS: 6.51 miles, 2,365’ elevation gain, 5:22:45 elapsed time

We really made our journey successful. It was a great trek but due to bad weather we had to cancel the flight for 2 days but within 9 days we managed Chola Pass and Gokyori trek. As we all hoped, the weather cooperated with us and we had a great time together. We may not be together forever but we will always cherish the memories we made during this short time. The beautiful scenery of Khumbu and the good weather made this trek so enjoyable that even the 9 days passed so quickly.
I would like to thank you so much .quests for giving
me the opportunity to join this trek.
I would like to congratulate and for making their dream come true as it is their first time to visit to Nepal.

DAY 3: “WE GO TO SEE THE EVEREST.” - We got the clear weather that Kailash was hoping for. After a long day booting up to Namche, we spent an extra day here acclimatizing and hiked up to the Everest View Hotel around 3,900m, where we caught our first glimpse of Sagarmatha, Nepali for ‘Goddess of the Sky’. For me, I’ve wanted to see this mountain for the better part of 4 years. For Dad, it’s been 60.

“You just don’t have any understanding…until you’re here,” he said.

Where the mountains that tower above earth touch the roof of the sky, where the world’s cultures harmoniously come together to witness such a miraculous sight, and where strangers evolve into family to help one another along the way.

Challenging days urged me to relinquish a need for control, shift my perspective, and embrace the present-practicing gratitude for my health, shelter, and metal strength.

Here, nothing is forever, nothing is a guarantee, “one can only be hopeful.” With it comes joy, laughter, and an unparalleled sense of kindness and respect.

The Himalayas have proven to be a constant reminder of our humble place in the world.
